......and when illegal weapons start to flow easily into Nigeria from Sahel, will you still say the same thing? or you don't know the coupists will allow for free illegal weapons to flow into Nigeria in order to destabilise it?

How many weapon don flow from Burkina Faso, Mali etc. Libya has no leader and highly destabilise. Niger is different. Even the coupist don't tolerate nonsense that civil tolerate in terms of security. That doesn't mean I support military leadership. But I mean a coup doesn't necessarily means insecurity. Libya case is different

Following the refusal of the Niger military coup leaders' refusal to hand over power back to ousted President Mohamed Bazoum, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has written to the Senate seeking its support for military intervention against the military junta in the neighbouring country.

You will recall that last week Sunday, Tinubu, the Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, after meeting with some fellow ECOWAS leaders to discuss appropriate ways to restore democracy in Niger had issued a seven-day ultimatum to the military junta to hand over power or face military intervention.

The President’s letter read, “Political situation in Niger. Following the unfortunate political situation in Niger Republic culminating in the overthrow of its President, ECOWAS under my leadership condemned the coup in its entirety and resolved to seek the return of the democratically elected govt in a bid to restore peace, ECOWAS convened a meeting and came out with a communique.”

President Tinubu also sought support for, “Military buildup and deployment of personnel for military intervention to enforce compliance of the military junta in Niger should they remain recalcitrant.

“Closure and monitoring of all land borders with the Niger Republic and reactivating of the border drilling exercise.
“Cutting off Electricity supply to the Niger Republic, mobilising international support for the implementation of the provisions of the ECOWAS communique.”
“Preventing the operation of commercial and special flights into and from Niger Republic; Blockade of goods in transit to Niger especially from Lagos and eastern seaports,” he added.

President Tinubu also told the Senate that the country was embarking on sensitisation of Nigerians and Nigeriens on the imperative of these actions, particularly via social media.

Niger’s democratically elected president, Mohamed Bazoum, was toppled by his presidential guards, and he has since remained in their custody.

Following the looming threat of war between the Niger military coup leaders and the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, hundreds of European nationals are being evacuated from the West African nation that has now been plunged into a political crisis and rattled the region.

At least 262 people, including 12 infants, have already left the country on board one Airbus A330 plane, French foreign minister Catherine Colonna said.

You will recall that supporters of the coup leaders had gathered outside the French Embassy in Niamey in a demonstration against France's alleged post-colonial influence.

Several other European countries are also working to evacuate their citizens or collaborate in the French effort. Germany and Spain are both working to remove citizens from the country, and the United Kingdom has said that it is in contact with the few British nationals registered in Niger and is collaborating with France.

Italy, meanwhile, has organized a separate flight to evacuate its citizens – fewer than 90 civilians across the country and just over 300 military personnel, according to a spokesperson from the Italian foreign ministry.

The United States, on the other hand, is keeping its embassy operating on a normal schedule, with State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller saying Tuesday that there were no current indications “of threats to US citizens or facilities.”

However, the US troops in Niger have been restricted to the American military base in Agadez, Niger, as President Biden's administration works to restore the democratically-elected President Mohamed Bazoum to power.

All this happened in Niger because Nigeria has an illegitimate President that's an illegitimate Ecowas chairman, making a mockery of Ecowas.

Is planning? He should do it and others should counter the move or even beat him to it.

It's their country and they can do as they wish since they have successfully suppressed the opposition to the coup.

Ecowas should immediately hold a vote to remove Niger and divide the membership into two, so they can see the board clearly and know who is on which side.

This can also be a blessing in disguise for Nigeria, in the sense that, president Tinubu can float the idea of sending 3 to 6 representatives from geopolitical zones of Nigeria since the north is already talking about Niger war is their war, so every region can also join one of the ecowases grin they want and then build on that leading to sovereign conference.

We don't have to be together to be civil, most people are best friends with their parents after they move out and are living on their own. You will be surprised how Yoruba will be igbos best friends when we are in our separate countries or have nothing tying us together except some military and imigration.

The General Abdourahmane Tchiani-led military junta in the Republic of Niger is planning on recalling the Nigerien Ambassador to Nigeria after failing to come to terms with the delegation of the Economic Community of West African States, on the return of democracy in Niger.

The junta is also planning to recall Nigerien Ambassadors to Togo, the United States, and France, as it pushes to evict French and US troops in the country, while declaring an end to all Memorandum of Understanding between France and the Republic of Niger.

Defence sources privy to the ongoing meeting in Niamey, the Niger capital confirmed the development to our correspondent Friday morning.

President Tinubu is doing all the right thing, you are just mad at everything.

You are either a coward or an anti Tinubu.

President Tinubu is doing what diplomacy entails and cutting the light before sending delegation is part of letting them know he isn't playing. That's what sanctions are all about. Yes sometimes it fails, sometimes it works, one just have to try and keep trying.

President Tinubu must put every sanction under his control on Niger and its allies.

Coup is always a possiblity in a lawless country and every president that knows his onion will prepare and guide against it.

Of course it's Russia!

I just feel sorry for countries that are putting all on the line for what they don't know when China, Russia and France are still working together.
