Nigeria is a country of huge contrasts. Some parts are relatively developed while other parts are remote and backward. There are certain parts with educational enrollment among the highest in the world while another region is among the lowest in the world. Same wide disparities is common in virtually all sectors.

However, the SW region of region, boosted with its proximity to Lagos, Nigeria's economic capital, often posts huge IGR. Particularly states like Lagos, Ogun and Oyo. Unfortunately, same states (with the exception of Lagos) has the worst rural and urban development in Nigeria. Aside very poor roads, the cities are also largely slums. In contrast, the SE region of Nigeria doesn't post huge IGR yet they appear to have much better rural and development. Wealth distribution is also good with gap between rich and poor relatively very close. From my research, I discovered that human capital development among the Igbos along with capital retention is why their region is doing much better.

On the other hand, huge IGR only makes the corrupt politicians of SW richer while the poor sinks deeper into multidimensional poverty. I used the SW and SE as yardsticks because they typifies the extremities of my comparative study. Also note that SS tends closer to SE while NW and NE tends closer to SW in this analysis.

The pictures below summarizes it:

First picture is Ogbomosho, SW, Nigeria.
Second picture is Oshogbo, SW, Nigeria. You can easily observe the gross underdevelopment.

Third picture is Enugu, SE, Nigeria.
Fourth picture is Aba, SE, Nigeria. You can equally observe how relatively developed they are.

Unfortunately, Tinubu wants to replicate the SW scenario across Nigeria and millions of Nigerians are already sinking into poverty with each passing day.

Yorubas need to learn from Igbos if they really want to evolve. Fayose once acknowledged this fact and sent Ekiti boys to travel to Aba and learn Igbo ways of life but unfortunately, his predecessor couldn't sustain the program. Otherwise, Ekiti would have started seeing the benefits by now.

When your rural areas look like drought ravaged sahel country while your cities are nothing but glorified slums, then you know there is a big problem.

HDI is the best form of development for any developing economy.

If u build infrastructure without human development, those u have refused to developed will destroy ur so called infrastructure. Just like what is happening in some parts of Nigeria.

All the manhole in Abuja have been Stoke or destroyed. Same with Lagos state.
