It has come to my notice that Nairaland has become so toxic because of the ethnic slur we use at each other. which is very bad. And the f**ked up part of it is that the mods ain't doing anything to stop this.

My current job was given to me by a Yoruba friend because he knew I was the man for the job and not because of ethnicity. But coming to Nairaland everyday it feels as if we can't cohabit as Nigerians without bad mouthing one another.

Infact any one on Nairaland, dealing with another ethnic group has this fake assumption about the other tribe based on what you read here on Nairaland which is bad. Abeg these stuff has to change.

One thing I noticed is that, it is now ipob turned Obi supporters that are complaining about tribalism and insults.

Wasn't there tribalism when Hausa/Fulani are the the backward urine drinkers?
wasn't there tribalism when Yoruba was the Ewedu ass lickers and Ijaws are the dirty Creek dwellers?

Na now the tribalism reach ona side?

Seun is the cause of all this toxicity. I have never seen a social media where you are allowed to swallow insults, bigotry, death threats etc without blocking the cyberbully. It's the member's right to choose his/her circle.

It doesn't take any additional creativity to add a block button on Nairaland.

igbos are d main reason for d toxicity n I will give u a clear example to know that

When igbos were in pdp, pdp was too toxic n it was too bad. Igbos move to Labour Party n it’s now the new toxic party

U can see u didn’t see any toxicity from pdp again , it has now move to Labour

If igbos move to unknown sdp tomorrow they will become toxic again

If igbos can turn an unknown Labour Party to a symbol of hate then what do u expect

We deal, live and do business together as Nigerians outside the online beef. But truth remains that there's is this reservation we all have for each other. Not individually but when you think of it on a large scale - the tribe level

There's this "dey your lane make I dey my lane" attitude subconsciously. I mean, I have friends across tribes and I have customers nationwide but it's hard to sweep off that knowledge that your ancestors were massacred by the other.

And so long as that isn't addressed I really don't see us moving forward as a nation. We will all be vulnerable to the white man's divide and conquer attack tactics.

The past elections wasn't about Peter Obi, Bulaba or Atiku.

It was simply given a tribal undertone in other to confuse the masses on the surface and give us a bone to chew on while they focus on putting in a loyal croony to overseas that crude lifting and raw materials syphoning goes uninterrupted.

It's simply the Oyibos vs You

We can decided to fight everyday here or address the differences and join hands to chase these fchking Babylonians away from our motherland.

But then it cant happen because so many of our brothers have soiled their hands in blood because of dollars

The toxicity on Nairaland started as the fall out of the 2015 election and made worse with the arrest of Nnamdi Kanu and the advent of IPOB. Since then all hell has been let loose.

Seun and Mynd44 have tried their best but they are overwhelmed

Pocohantas issues insults and threats to Nairalanders everyday but never gets banned.

Start from there if you're serious, otherwise, shut up.

Mental health is not taken seriously in this country. A lot of psycho just use nairaland to spread their toxicity.
At times I wonder what goes on in the head of most monikers that deliberately spread hatred and support evil politicians. To them politicians and government can never be wrong. Not knowing in their shallow mind that politicians and government especially are made up of humans of which most of them were junkies when they where young.
The toxicity is mostly in political section.

Do you even know the function of the block button? Do you use Twitter, Facebook, telegram etc where you block unintelligible and insulting users?

Blocking someone only stops you or her/him from seeing each other's comments. It doesn't affect your presence on the forum.

Nairaland doesn't have any administrative operating procedure for moderation. No community standard, no ethics, and no method of appealing injustice meted out to members by overzealous moderators.

Do you know that ethnic politics was why Seun lost control of Nairaland after the 2015 elections? When you don't know something, just reserve your comments.

Re: Toxicity In Nairaland. by nairalanda1(m): 9:57pm On Aug 05, 2023
The problem with the site began when home internet became more popular from 2008 onwards. All of a sudden, everyone had an internet account, everyone had annonymity on this site, and everyone could talk

Then there was the 2010 issue with GEJ vs the Northern cabal. That heated things up.

2011 may have been the last straw, and 2012-13 when things went down.

On the toxicity thing, it was always thus on the internet. Every forum has that problem. Yahoo comments began as serious minded stuff, then it became more and more about people being abusive and suchlike.

Anyway, at the end, Nigerians can be abusive, (and yes, I am among) and scarcastic. And too many people are still bitter about elections past and present...and that includes people who backed the winning side.

Anyway, who cares. I will soon be on the path to somewhere...

It is not Nairaland that needs to change, it is the people that use the site that need to change. We have to remember our upbringings...if we had one.

I wrote Pando.ra Obi and Athiefk.u but I think NL autocorrect changed it. But then that's my point exactly. The reason that made u notice I called BAT balablu is the same reason a white man's Divide & Rule will always work like magic. We're too blind to look beyond tribe

It's has been indoctrinated in us to hate each other we can't help it

Like ... it's so easy to control Africans without having to be physically present. All you need do is empower 1 poor foolish public office holder with stolen funds and watch how he will willingly sell his Kinsmen to you for more.

And that's why Divide

Op, u said it well.. I have been helped by igbos and I have so many as friends especially when I even plan to marry igbo girl.... I can't let nairaland spoil my mind and I even stopped twitter

When you are pointing one finger, four are pointing back at you. Nairaland is filled with jobless, broken and frustrated guys from all enthic divide that find succor in tribal hate. Instead of tackling the government, they are busy hating each other ignorantly. Politicians cashed in on nairaland moderators weakness and turned the once beautiful forum into tribal and hate battle ground. I am a Nigerian, that's all that matters.

Get out from here.

Always calling out Seun and non Ibo posters whenever the heat is applied on your wayward fellow IPOB posters without ever condemning the crass mannerless behaviour of your Okoro posters.

You are the biggest hypocrite on this forum with your selective judgement on other posters while ignoring your toxic IPOB louts.
