Things have changed since then. Earlier they were banking on Russia and Wagner and they never saw the second phase of sanctions and counter coup coming

Notice the ECOWAS Flag behind the coup leader out of respect for SLS.

President Tinubu should consider easing the sanctions in exchange for a firm commitment from the Junta, to begin a monitored transition process to democratic rule, with a mutually agreed timeline.

Negotiations would likely be centered around handing over back to a democratic government, but it’s unlikely to be a Bazoum government due to public dissatisfaction with his governance (the main reason the putschists received public support in the first place).
