Our Receptionist Is TIMID, Fear is her first name by Joshuamilarge(m): 5:46pm On Aug 11, 2023
Good day nairalanders.
We employed a 26 year old (f) into our medical facility about 5 months ago as our receptionist.
And as standard practice demands, when a patient comes into the reception, one of the basics is that you register the patient accordingly. this means that you ask the full name of the patient, address, sex, AGE, etc.
The challenge we have with her since her resumption is that after asking and writing the full name of (the) patient, when it gets to AGE, she goes blank. she does not have the courage to ask anybody above 15yrs their age.
we have spoken to her, taught her, explained to her how it's done, all to no avail.
Her fear is that they will shout at her, I guess it happened once and we defended her as our staff.
what else can we do to give her confidence?

She's not ready to work.
It's not as if she is some 16 years that just finished secondary school and took the job to wait on JAMB.
We are talking about a 26 years old woman here.
She needs to do the needful and learn or she should be shown the way out.

she doesn't trust you, the same you that asked her to collect people's age, now when she does it by rude now you will scold her, abuse and treaten her and also deny her.

It gives me serious pressure because I many times I would leave my bench to the reception meet with the patient and ask of their age. When they respond to me before her, it's as though I just performed a miracle.
Give her another 20 minutes, she is snow cold again. I have never seen someone this timid.

Read again please, I understand some patient may be rude, whenever it happens, I stand in her defence.

The facility is in a semi- rural area.
Not Lagos or abuja
