5 Ways to Request for a Salary Increase.

According to a recent survey by Glassdoor, 45% of people who quit their jobs attributed it to lack of a raise.

The talent war is such that only those with the right skills, qualities and competencies can negotiate what they want.

Most people get intimidated and feel it’s impossible to do this. The first thing is the mindset, I have coached several and it’s no brainer that once your result can do the talking, then half the task is done.

However, before you walk into that office and command the numbers you want, take a moment to consider these:

1. Have you consistently met targets and goals?

2. Did you rise to any new challenges that the company faced and over delivered on the task?

3. Did you subsumed other people’s work as a result of their exit?

4. Have you added any relevant skills that would impact on your job?

5. What can you bring on board this new year?

If you answer “yes” to at least three of these, then know, you can actually discuss a raise as no good organization wants to lose its talent.

Asking for a raise shouldn’t be daunting if you have done your homework well and made yourself indispensable.

You have two outcomes- your request is approved or you gain more experience on how to negotiate a raise with a win-win mindset.

How then do you ask for a raise?

📍 Research salary trends. Every job has a corresponding market value. Ask colleagues from other organizations.

📍List out your achievements in writing.

📍Choose the right time to ask.

📍 Set a meeting. It’s ideal to ask for a pay raise in person and in private. If you can avoid it, don’t ask for a raise in an email.

📍 Prepare what to say and rehearse your pitch.

📍 Remember the goal is to engage positively and not get aggressive.

📍Thank your boss. Regardless of how the conversation goes, thank he/her for the opportunity.

📍Send a follow-up email that summarises your conversation.

If this doesn’t work, then use another ace, do a powerpoint presentation of your last year’s performance.

If they reject your request for a raise, this email can serve as a record of the conversation. You may decide to request a raise again at a later date, and if you do, you can reference this email at that point.

Thank you @op.
I have done this recently in my work place, used this steps except the presentation. After verbal discussion which looked positive, I sent across summary of discussion and achievements. It's getting to two months now, I haven't gotten a reply nor acknowledgement of the mail I sent. I have even sent a gentle reminder, yet no response.
What step can I take next other than seeking for another job elsewhere?
Kindly advice.

I hope you don't get sacked if it's a private organization with the tolls of job request sent to mail daily. If your company has a system of staff appraisal, you patiently wait for it and table it.
Following social media post as ruin alot of lives. Do your Job, meet goals and have your side gigs

1.Threaten/call for an industrial action AKA Strike.

2. Begin negotiations with committee/HR

3. Walk out on committee/HR if negotiations don’t favour you & your family

4. Call for strike

5. Proceed on strike

Do these 5 and watch your boss will promise you double salary. To get him to Implement it, repeat 1-5😁

Some of these greedy managers and bosses might still not change their mind whenever and however you try these steps.
It's better you have you own business even while working for any organization.

Na talent you dey talk abi na the economy you go consider? Salary raise now should not be based on workers talent but on cushioning the harsh effect of this subsidy removal. Besides if one has not been productive in a company, don't you think the company would have terminated the persons appointment?

For a company to still keep you means you're still useful one way or the other therefore should consider reviewing your pay. They don't expect you to continue on the same salary in this harsh economy. Human factor alone you put into the job should be considered abi you go dey work on empty stomach after other expenses have gulped up the poor salary that has been dwarfed by the current inflation of the economy.

Oga, Every one deserves a pay raise in this present economy. Forget talent. Na belle we dey talk about now.

Do it only if you have a plan B, most companies will see you as someone working for money and might lay you off.

HRs can write a lot of nonsense.

Cost of living is rising, companies increase their charges for executing contracts as well as increase prices of their goods and services. But when it comes to increasing workers salaries, they behave like robots.

Very simple! Oga my money too small and fuel don cost

cheesy Salary increase?. Like una wan die for salary jobs?
Except you are lucky to belong to the top earners of top companies, no company can fully fund your lifestyle.

So whatever you earn, use it as leverage to build businesses and assets, learn more skills and grow so you can get more opportunities and plan your 9 to 5 exit point.

As you keep building for others, remember to build for yourself.

Instead of hoping your company give you a raise, raise your your thinking faculty undecided

Just write a resignation letter and leave.
Go and find the place that will value you more and negotiate salary before starting. You can't be begging someone that doesn't value you to value you by force. Pack and leave.

The aim of the company is to USE YOU to make AS MUCH profit as possible.
They are not a charity organisation and do not give a F*** about your salary.
They will even like you to WORK FREE for them if possible.
