Remember that the said Adonija tried to overthrow King Solomon. Instead of him to look for a way to make peace with him for trying to steal his birthright, he was busy eyeing a maiden that belongs to the king. Also this lady in question happens to be the most beautiful maiden in the whole land of Israel. So he deserves a death sentence. He committed a treasonous offence.

Adonijah's move was deceptive.
Having access to the King's virgin companion and marrying her is a sign of wanting what the king had - The Throne.
Solomon had to do the needful and also put other political opponents in place.

He had also earlier tried to take the kingdom while their father was still alive, now his wife (and by extension still trying to take the throne as in some cultures you go inherit everything wey your papa leave behind)

Secondly demanding for the wife of the dead King David can be seen as treason.This was done in order to ensure a smooth transition of power and to maintain stability in the kingdom. Solomon only did that to cement his grip on the throne.

This automatically makes him the step father to Solomon and literally the next to the throne
Since as at that time Solomon was king
Adonijah committed a second treasonable offences which resulted in death

For me he could have thought of it the other way he Solomon won't have the virgin girl as wife and their father is dead so,why not let his brother have her?

Because when the king died.he left behind his wives and his concubines.
There is practically no remarriage for such personal unless you want to create serious problem for eligibility of who owns the throne.
If those wives and concubines remarry.ot means they have right to take the throne.
So the best is to forbid them from remarrying to save the throne
