Twins already existed among Yoruba people long before Mary Slessor came

She only stopped people in south south and south east

On the contrary, killing of Twins has stopped in Yoruba land before Mary Slessor stepped her feet into Nigeria. She only eradicated killing of twins in Akwa Ibom and by extension, South south states.
There was no even Nigeria in that era. So that appellation is ambiguous to say the least

Mary Slessor stop the killing of twins in ancient Calabar, not in Yorubaland that has always appreciate twins birth.

In the olden days yoruba don't farm in the main town, they farm somewhere close outside the main city.
These farms are called igbo and the name of the people that farm there is added.
Like Igbo Ora, it means farm of the Ora people.
Ijebu Igbo, farm of the ijebu people, ijebu ode means the city of the ijebu people

There is no account of twins killing in Yoruba land. Yorubas love and respect twins and even tagged them as Oba Omo meaning King of child or best of child. Mary slessor only stopped the killing of twins in calabar i think, not in Nigeria generally.

ogbese is under Akure North Local Gov.

Oh that is great. I only came there once and it was about 25 years ago we came from Lagos to Akure then drove to that town. What brought us there then was a Soft drink brewery called Africola then which is one of the first indegenous soft drinks company in Nigeria as at then I think the brewery is gone nw because can't hear about it again.

Mary Slessor's missionary activities, especially her efforts at stopping the killing of twins, was in far away calabar area. In any case , the yorubas were not known to be killing their twins.

I think it's cos of the word Igbo which means bush in Yoruba Language. Most of their towns were developed from bush to cities.

So most of these town are named after the resources mostly found in the area

Igbo-Elerin means forest of Elephants
Igbo-Ora is gotten from Igbo-inu ira meaning swamoy forest.

Igbo-Ora..

It’s means a gigantic land where several amazing things exist..

SMH, see question, good question. SW 9JA named after Igbo? and vis a vis? Don't be lost or shock, are Yoruba&Igbo , what did we have in common ? What is the differences between both tribe? Igbo claiming to be related to Jews, confusion everywhere. Go and read the history of Benin Kingdom ( Edo State ) read facts and pure archive,and read History of Osun, read facts & pure archive. Research about Yoruba and Igbo root,then you have the answer you asked up there. Please don't take alcohol drinks when doing your research and the truth you found out please spill it out. Don't know how many years it will take you, but don t go and be doing copy and paste. Ask professors or archeology that have travel miles to tell you the truth about both tribes and what they found about our tribes, what we have in common and our differences ? U will be shock

Learnt about the high prevalence of twinning here when a friend was @ Baptist facility in the Igbora town some years ago. What a fortunate fest for them. Great bless Mary Scellesor for her persistence towards the eradication of killing twins in Nigeria.

Yoruba don’t kill twins from the beginning of them..

Infact, Yoruba do worship twins right from birth! Aside from the naming ceremony, there are several ceremony they do for twins!

Have you heard of Orisa-Ibeji before? It’s a sacred celebration for twins!

Back in the days, if them born twins, the society do knows. Something natural would happen like a rainfall..
