1: Between pumping in millions of dollars to get our refineries working again
Or
2: Investing huge funds into the Agricultural sector , farming thousands of hectares of land in each State across the Nation

Which of these two do you think we really need and would benefit us more as a country ?

Both but if only one, agriculture. Though local refining will save the weak naira faster if ready today, agric will take off the table the most recurring and heavy expense of the poor man as well as earn forex.

I believe Nigeria has 2 refineries- Kaduna and Port Harcourt.

Hundreds of billions have been spent since Yaradua era right up to Buhari, yet they are not working.

You want government to pour in hundreds of millions of dollars again. Where is the guaranty they will work.

And even if the refineries work, they will be huge corruption centres. Every year, the thing will break down. Or rather, the civil servants managing it will make sure it breaks down, so another huge sum can come in to be stolen. The fuel produced in that sort of environment will be more expensive. Production and supply will be small and unreliable and so any impact on reducing fuel import will be marginal.

Also, do you know any large industrial complex that has been successfully run by Nigerian government officials. Not just in recent years, but in the last 30 years?

Why do you think it would be different with the refineries?

The refineries are a money drain.

NLC president said Mr Tinubu promised the refineries will start working by December. I am very skeptical. Even if one of them starts working, it will cost the government more than it is worth.

The best outcome is for the refineries to be sold, assuming the government can find buyers.

Nigerians are confused people.

Go and see what Saudi Aramco is doing with oil money in Saudi Arabia

Go and see what Saudi Aramco is doing with oil money in Saudi Arabia

1. Saudi Arabia produces 7 times more crude than Nigeria.

2. Their population is 25% of Nigeria's.

3. No. 1 & 2 means they generate far more revenue from selling oil and they have far more money to develop their country.

4. As for Aramco doing well, it's partly because their citizens don't set out to destroy everything their government put under their control like majority of Nigerians do.

Just this morning, my doctor neighbour was lamenting that his security man was stealing his chicken eggs sad If I tell you what I have experienced in the hands of staff ehn.

So, Nigerians are quick to blame government for this and that. But even the ordinary man and woman on the street are mostly untrustworthy.

Who is doing who.

They are not mutually exclusive.

The security man will not be stealing if he earns enough to take care of his basic needs. Many Nigerians "steal" because politicians steal. If people at the top stop stealing and allow these monies flow down to the masses maybe just maybe we would have reduced the case of stealing by a good percentage.
