The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) said it has arrested four suspected rail track vandals in Nasarawa State.

CSC Babawale Afolabi, NSCDC National Public Relations Officer, in a statement said the Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad intercepted an articulated DAF truck conveying large quantities of vandalised rail track iron concealed inside iron scrap.

According to him, the four suspected arrested have been taken into custody for further investigations and action.

According to him, details of the truck were hiven as an articulated DAF truck with registration number BSA 899XA and the four suspected vandals, among whom is a 27-year-old Anasi Ali, who was the driver of the truck.

“Others are Yusuf Idris, 25, Hafis Idris, 18 and Nasiru Abdullahi, 28, who served as an escort.

Items recovered from the vandals are; a DAF truck, large quantities of offloaded scrap irons and large quantities of vandalised railway iron.

“Investigation carried out by the NSCDC revealed that the vandals loaded the rail truck irons and slippers in Makurdi, Benue State and concealed them inside scrap irons to disguise them as scraps. They were taking the vandalised products to an undisclosed iron and steel company in Ilorin, Kwara State before they were intercepted and arrested,” the statement further added

Vandalizing rail tracks is not only wickedness but madness. To what aim exactly The offence should be punishable by death because it's an attempted murder already.

Poverty is not the reason why people go into crimes. It is only an excuse criminals make in trying to justify their crime.

You mean to say their are no Brown collar jobs out there to earn a decent living from?

Good one. They should be prosecuted. Rails that we went nights without food patiently waiting for fed govt to use our salaries and taxes to build. Then you want to vandalise so that they can keep us hungry again and say they are repairing. Suffer no dwy tire Niger migrants in this entity call Nigeria?

I see people up there saying it's mostly greed. They're just being blind to the truth. In as much as greed can be a factor, it is low on the reasons people go into a life of crime. Even young children are lifting their parents out of poverty today because their hardworking parents couldn't; and we are here being blind to the truth, blaming it on greed.

Poverty, Unemployment and underemployment remains the biggest reason crime is on the rise in Nigeria. You cannot have 133 million people below poverty line as at the last analysis and before any of these subsidy-induced inflation and expect morals to be at the forefront. If they are at their jobs which gainfully takes care of their expenses, they won't be the idle minds for the devil's workshop.

Secondly, the lack of will in the evil government to combat evil from which they too benefit and turn a blind eye to. It will be shocking the ranking of the big man behind these guys. They can't pull off such without observation, no matter how long it takes, except there is a sustained crime ring that protects them from query. After all, a little side money and a little muscle on standby are some of what they enjoy playing around with.

Nigeria, as a country, is one of the many country with third world problems where crime pays and uprightness is ridiculed. From the judiciary, to peer pressure, to religious and political reasons; it's almost common place to see people being honoured for being involved in one crime or the other. All of these were in full parade this past elections and see how some of us were actually praising criminals for their roles. Crazy. And we want to call out greed when we create an enabling environment ourselves.

Rubbish, really.

Aside corruption, one major problem we have in Nigeria is overpopulation.

There are several people who they shouldn't have given birth to.

Very good.

Something must be done about this scrap metal business in Nigeria.

Notice that now our northern brothers break into people’s shops, homes and offices to steal copper and whatever iron kwanden that they can find. Even metals used to cover manholes gutters are brazenly stole by these fellows. They use bags to laid while generators and run away.

This northern boko haram crisis has become a very serious national problem.

They are economy saboteurs, that is why it would be better for govt to have a large farm land, people like this should be sent to the farm and make them useful for the nation while they remain useless for themselves and after 65 years of age they should be released into a govt estate of 1 room apartment with their daily bread supplied for them
