Matriculation has always been a special celebration for newly admitted students into Tertiary Institutions. It’s like the beginning of a new start and a reminder that you're in a different environment entirely where hard work of learning and culture rules over pleasures. Newly admitted students of Nigerian Army School of Medical Sciences (NASMS) were glad to have been given admission into the prestigious Institution as this has bought to them another opportunity to witness one of the most special events because Matriculation ceremony is an event that shouldn't be missed in any student's academia foundation.

The special day fell on a Friday 18th August 2023, all students felt a mild weather and the gentle breeze whispering calmly during the early hours of their matriculation ceremony. It is quite unusual to have such a beautiful weather in Ojo environs during season lile this.

The matriculation ceremony at the Nigerian Army School of Medical Sciences (NASMS ) in Ojo welcomed students, merely high percentage of military and paramilitaries personnel into a variety of diploma courses for the academic year 2022–2023, was successfully completed. The new group of military, paramilitaries and civilians attending the event were filled with enthusiasm and eagerness.

However, the Commandant of NASMS, Colonel S. Anyogo, expressed his thanks for the chance to attend the first National Diploma students’ matriculation ceremony. These students were admitted to NASMS for the current academic session by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

The ceremony, according to Colonel Anyogo, introduced the students to the core values, customs, and ethos of the organization. He emphasized that 64 students, who had been carefully chosen for entrance into five(5) departments, Dental Technology, Dental Therapy, Environmental Health Technology, Health Information Management, and lastly, Health Service Administration, approved by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), would be graduating from NASMS in total.


Colonel Anyogo exhorted the pupils to demonstrate virtues like assiduity, perseverance, and obedience throughout his speech. He highlighted the value of keeping their academic focus while also encouraging the development of traits like adaptability, resourcefulness, and self-reliance. He profusely thanked the newly appointed Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, for providing the resources required for the functioning of the institution.


Furthermore, the acting Corps Commander Medical (CCM), Colonel SO Okoigi, commended the NASMS academic staffs for their dedication to establishing a culture that is supportive of learning and development. He pushed the freshers to actively pursue knowledge as well as just receive it. In order to prepare them to handle the complexity of the world with integrity and compassion, Colonel Okoigi challenged them to develop as critical thinkers, problem solvers, and agents of good change.


The Chief of Training (Army), who was the Special Guest of Honor (SGOH) representative, commended the freshers on their potential as specialists in their chosen medical fields. He emphasized the value of commitment and concentration in obtaining the requisite medical credentials, enabling them to effectively contribute to the Nigerian Army, the larger Nigerian community, and mankind at large. He emphasized the value of perseverance in the medical industry, which entails saving lives and advancing human welfare.


Dignitaries from several organizations, including the Registrar of JAMB, NBTE, the Chief of Training (Army), the Chief of Administration (Army), the Chief of Staff and Director Pharmacy Headquarters Nigerian Army Medical Corps, attended the ceremony. The ceremony, which signaled the start of a new educational journey for the fresher students, was praised as a flawless and memorable event.

In light of the above, the ceremony was one of a kind and astonishing. Hitherto, this is not the end of the beginning but the beginning of the end. Pictures of some freshers are attached for views and pictorial evidence.

The Cameraman who took all these shots ought not to be paid at all. What's all these.
As ordinary as arrangement & attention are, we can't ask people to conform 2such at photography sessions.
What a disjointed photography coming from something as revered as the highly disciplined Nigerian Army.
Even the Army couldn't flog them into uniformity.
