A former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode has cautioned President Bola Tinubu not to endanger the lives of Nigerian troops by sending them to fight in Niger Republic.

On July 26, officers of the Presidential Guard arrested President Muhammed Bazoum and declared him deposed.

On July 30, ECOWAS, led by President Tinubu, decided on sanctions against the military personnel in Niger and gave a week ultimatum to the military junta to restore ousted Bazoum to office.

Also, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Defence chiefs have agreed on a “D-day” for a possible military intervention to restore civil rule in Niger if diplomatic efforts fail.

However, in a post on his X ( formerly Twitter) handle, Fani-Kayode said going to war with Niger is like having another civil war as many Nigeriens are living in Nigeria.

He wrote "Burkina Faso and Mali have deployed fighter jets to Niger to assist them in the event of an invasion. Russian Wagner forces have been deployed to Niamey to assist the junta in the event of an attack.ECOWAS commanders say the D-Day for an attack "has been set". This is MADNESS!

"Worse still there are more Nigereins living in Nigeria than there are in Niger! Going to war with Niger will end up being more like a civil war because millions of our people have families on both sides of the border. Please ponder on that before the first shot is fired and we send our boys to the killing fields!"

When the Invasion is declared, The Earlier Southerners in the Army desert the military before the invasion the better for them. No Southerner lives should be used as a Sacrificial lamb for this nonsense invasion

I used to Think Tinubu is smart but giving a nod for a military invasion is nothing but Stvpidity of it's highest. How do you expect a successful Invasion that 90% of Nigeriens support, isn't that being stvpid?? There's lotta humanitarian crisis in the North already, why in a haste to compound their problems??

If only our government will understand that there is more to this than invading and at the end losing which will bring shame to these country. Why not allow this people resolve their crises themselves the way they want it rather than rushing into what we will rush out again

I may not be fully in support of the military operation, but why are some people making it look like this is the first time this kind of thing is happening?? Ecowas did the same in Sierra Leone way back in 1998 and it succeeded within days. During Buhari's tenure, they did the same when the then-president of Gambia lost election and he refused to vacate office. His soldiers refused to fight and ECOWAS forces didn't have to fight at the end; they just did mopping operation — in fact they are still there till date.

Niger people are majority Hausa and they know Berebe (thats what Hausas call Yorubas) very well, Babangida is a Hausa man too grin

Liberia does not share borders in 7 states with Nigeria... In Zambia, both the military and citizens were against the then president, this is not the case with Niger.

You are living your moniker, if Tinubu is not smart, he would have send troops already, but he chose dialogue instead of war, he has been sending emissaries of various people and groups to meditate, try to see beyond sentiment and your hatred

FFK firing a warning mild shots at Tinubu for not giving him appointment.
he's like "shey you know what I can do "
but what FFK don't understand is that he was just hired to play dirty for Tinubu who promised to play dirty anyway.
his job is done and he's no longer needed.
if the likes of ElRufai didn't get a slot, what makes you think that FFK will get.
interesting times ahead if Tinubu makes it at tribunal.

Nobody is deserting anywhere.since wen did ffk who is master of personal stomach infrastructure ever make sense.burkina faso has no fighter jets n if they do ,it wont be more than 3.therefore they will never use it for a war that isnt theirs.
Hav u tot abt d fact that tinubu has more info that cant be communicated to d public.why not trust him n his advisers to take d right decision as pertaining to war. There is no one that is happy to goto war..moreover its an ecowas thing which niger is signed member.
