For once, let's be circumspect in our dealings.

In the 3 months Tinubu has been at Aso rock, close to 3 trillion naira has been shared between the three tiers of government. Yet for some ridiculously weird reason, state governors (whether old or newly elected, with exceptions of a few) have done basically nothing to ameliorate the pains and angst being felt by citizens of the country.

There's no Nigerian state that doesn't generate internal revenue. Add that to whatever shares are being gotten from the federal coffers, and there's the need for us to be asking proper questions.

We've all been reading and seeing headlines on a daily basis. Adeleke of Osun, Otti of Abia, Soludo of Anambra, Zulum of Borno, Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, Obaseki of Edo and Umoh of Akwa Ibom, seem to be the only governors who have been making recent efforts at governance and delivering dividends to the masses.

I don't know what the rest of the governors are up to. The sloth in the government house of my Cross River state seems to be the worst in this category. There's literally nothing happening since he assumed office three months ago. I don't live in my state but I get weekly updates as regards happenings and nothing seems to be taking shape.

Tinubu may not be getting everything right, but why does it seem like we're all too centered on the Federal government and neglecting to prod the efficiency of the governors who are closer to us? If I was back home, I'll mobilise a crowd and picket the home of my Local government chairman so the bastard answers some questions. Tinubu cannot deliver governance down to the LGAs. This is basically why democratic governance has to be spread so efforts get to the grassroots.

These things are starting to really irk to the bone marrow!

Is the situation different in the states listed? Does Abia state not remit revenues to the Centre? Is Lagos not remitting? Is Anambra not remitting? Is Osun not remitting? How are these states making efforts at delivering good governance yet others are simply going around with their repulsive carefree attitude?

State governors are one the biggest problem in this country' just like my state governor, very very useless.... No minimum wage increasement and vice versa..
But all our focus is on the federal govt'' thereby giving the governors the opportunity to blame the federal govt of their low or none performances....

Time is the luxury the ordinary masses do not have. Same way we have been very consistent at demanding proper governance from Tinubu's FG, is how we should do with the governors.

People are dying from hunger. Children can no longer go to schools. There's a guy on this forum who has been hawking his Vivo phone for over 2 weeks just cause of hunger. No matter the political divide, we're all humans before our primodial interests.

Most of our state governors are basking in euphoria while hiding behind the cloak of our focus on the FG. They're not working. We need to step up the heat on them!

Actually, the masses do have a humongous say in how the affairs of their states are run. Civil protests are constitutionally backed and when done right, have always achieved results.

The relaxed attitude of the citizens towards governance at the state level, has been a trend that has its roots planted in the Buhari's era (mostly during his second term). Prior to that, I vividly remember how several protests had locked down the government house in Cross River. Medical personnel, teachers, non-academic workers in state colleges, road transport unions, all had seperate protests and got practical responses from the state government.

Now we are all just focused on the Federal Government as if Tinubu and his administrative cabinet are supposed to drive to individual states to mandate those lackadaisical governors to act right.

We've made the FG the scapegoat and ignored the SGs in the process, when they're actually the ones plundering our home resources even more.

Ben Ayade, former governor of Cross River, ran that state like a conquered territory. He and his elder brother stole to their hearts' content, mined and exported natural resources like limestones, masterminded the deforestation of virgin forests just to have enough timber to export and all the while, the people focused blames on Buhari's FG.

Even if we all have different political inclinations, the truth remains that these politicians are united in the thievery of our commonwealth and it's only proper we demand what's rightfully ours from these governors.

You're absolutely right, but my concern is for the poor masses to be protected at all cost. If we decide to do mass protest it might result to many hurtful things.

During this past election people died, during that Ends SARS protest some lost their lives. They always push the masses to the war front meanwhile their family members are protected at all cost.

Corruption has eaten deep into thier blood stream, it can never be any better. We should just take it like that.

He should resign then.

Cross River has a commensurate IGR and is not even on the list of the top 10 poorest states in Nigeria. We're 3rd on the list of the highest cocoa producers in Nigeria. Our oil wells may have been ceded to Akwa Ibom, but we still generate revenue from Agriculture, tourism, taxes and other mineral resources like limestone, granite, aluminium, etc. The granite that comes out of Akamkpa LGA alone runs into billions of naira annually.

Bassey Otu has no excuse whatsoever to be such a colossal failure and I'm surprised you see the need to be making excuses for him already. I supported and canvassed votes for him from my base, because Sandy Onor was not an alternative. But the man is failing and the truth has to be told!

How is prince failing? What has he done wrong? Are you so quick to judge people?
Oga,that cocoa stuff na scam.most of the production is in the hands of private hands.same with the minerals in akamkpa.consultants collect those tax on behalf of the govt.the official igr from crs is about 2 bil a month.
Prince so far is slowly restoring crs back to pre ayade period.he has set up task forces to look at logging, quarrying and even set up a minerals agency today.lets give him time.so far, workers are happy with him as he is implementing promotions delayed under ayade and reorganising the public sector

He has to do better. His work pace is alarmingly slow and disappointing. Hunger propagates discontent and serves as a breeding ground for insecurity. Kidnappings in the state are already resuming at a worrisome rate.
Re: What Are State Governors Doing? by Kukutenla: 10:03pm On Aug 23, 2023
Op needs to know that the fish rots from the head.
Take for example the last 5bn palliative to buy rice and maize. It turned out part of it is a loan.
But besides that, what is the idea behind FG handing over such monies to states to solve a problem wholly created by FG? You think the states do not know that FG is seeking to just hide its incompetence behind them?
If anything, the story of bailouts should let the FG know that you don't trust states with monies because states are under no obligation whatsoever to render accounts to FG how they spend money.
So if you like shine your eyes on states, you're simply wasting your time because as long as states know the FG is lacklustre they have an alibi for their own incompetence.
Just look at Buhari's attempt to grant LGs autonomy. It failed. The states ganged up against him and had their way. That's the effect of an incompetent FG.

True, kidnapping has increased but the deputy gov has started sharing palliatives.he has added 10,000 naira to workers salaries plus him and send ekpenyong are partnering on a transport scheme.do not expect much from him.only the next governer can perform excellently after prince has repaired what ayade damaged

Note this dude. He is making excuses for a gov to fail.
Mind you, he became an Ayade fan after the man joined APC. Like most APC rats, he's turning round to denounce the man just as they supported Buhari to fail for eight years while blaming PDP only to denounce the man immediately he left office.
Most of them are brainless.

A society where the masses "take it like that" never bodes well for the millions without voices. I'm not certain most of our parents sent us to schools with their sweat so we could finish and "take it like that" while poor leadership deprives us of decent living standards so we can in turn, look after our elderly ones.

Any man who isn't able to stand for something dies for nothing.

EndSars might have ended in a bloodbath, but for generations to come, "20th October, 2020" is always going to be a memorable date in the minds of our children. Those victims died lending their voices for something.
