I just bought dis iPhone4 and am having a serious problem. Initially i had 2 cut my sim card 2 fit into the phone. I was charged #500. After it came on, i was told i needed 2 unlock it. I was going 2 be charged #1000 to unlock.
Can anyone please advise me on how to unlock it myself so that i can start using it?

1000 to unlock? what is d version and modem firmware of the fone?. check d settings-general-about page

since iphone 4 is quiet a new phone unlocking it will be difficult. there are many software solutions to unlock an iphone. some may say redsnow helped. if you try those and it worked it is well and good. but there is another method to unlock an iphone. you can unlock it through remote unlocking too. this method will be easier and faster to unlock an iphone. i know a provider Prounlocking.com who helps to unlock an iphone through remote unlocking. you can also contact them to unlock your iphone.
follow these instructions it will help you to get your phone unlocked.

1. Wait for us to send you an email saying your phone has been activated or remotely unlocked.
2. Install the latest version of iTunes.
3. Make sure your Apple iPhone 4 phone software is updated to the latest version using the iTunes software.
4. Connect your Apple iPhone 4 to iTunes with a NOT ACCEPTED SIM card.
5. Wait until iTunes detects your Apple iPhone 4.
6. Disconnect your Apple iPhone 4 and reconnect it after 10 seconds.
7. Your Apple iPhone 4 is now unlocked.
