TRIBAL AND RELIGIOUS SENTIMENT: A CLOG IN THE WHEEL OF OUR PROGRESS

Tribal and religious sentiment is a serious problem in this country. It is true that every man has a right to his personal views and opinions. However, such views and opinions must be devoid of tribal and religious sentiment. Imagine a man with University degree preferring NEPA bill to a University certificate? This is preposterous! Now, look at where NEPA bill has landed us? Hunger is ravaging the land and those who clamoured for NEPA bill are not exempted - all of them are suffering too. One of such religious bigots who almost stabbed his friend for drumming support for GEJ in 2015 has been reduced almost to a beggar by the hash economy. Few weeks ago when I went to his once busy business premises, the entire area was deserted. In fact, it was like a graveyard. The bad economy had crippled his business. Without any reliable means of survival, he was compelled to return to his village. The suffering and hardship is not interested in knowing one's tribe or religion: it pummels everybody with great force.

The hardship that we are currently going through is also not selective. Majority of Nigerians are suffering it except those who have the privilege of 'receiving prayers in their mail boxes'. Today, many Nigerians have parked their vehicles because they cannot afford to buy fuel. Many businesses have closed down. Many civil/public servants are not able to go to work because either they have not been paid their salaries or they cannot afford to pay transport fare to and from their places of work. In a bid to survive, people are going into all manner of dubious and wicked practices in order to put food on the table - victims of these nefarious activities (also) include the tribal and religious chauvinists. Nobody is exempted!

Tribal and religious sentiment have never helped us right from the beginning of our union as a country.

If we do not turn away from this absurd behaviour, we shall continue to wallow in unmitigated hardship.

Let us liberate ourselves from this mental slavery so that our tomorrow will be beautiful.

It seems you didn't get what the guy said. In Nigeria due to the multiple languages, English is the only language that everyone can communicate with.
If the country really want to move very fast, each region should manage themselves. Due to different cultural belief and religion, it makes it difficult for common decisions to be achieved.

The only way out is to restructure Nigeria along ethnic lines

But because some people feel Nigeria's present structure gives them dominion over other and they feel they can expand their land they would always fight against this simple solution

Toh
