Now first of all let me establish one fact , I do not care about your life choices, I personally find these japa topics and the back and forth comments on it to be very amusing. So when I open topics like this it is strictly to catch cruise. Nobody is discouraging you to japa so please save that mad talk. With that being established let’s proceed with the story

Dr Peter is a very rich man in Nigeria who had a medical practice and a big house and three cars. He was doing very well. But the japa allure came knocking at his door. So he sold everything he owned and moved to Canada. This is his story. It is full of regrets. He said he has discovered the whole thing was a mirage and that in Canada they work you like a machine and you never get to enjoy your job and they take all the money back in taxes and that you can never save. His advice to Nigerians is that if you are very stable in Nigeria do not attempt the mistake he made. In going through the comments of the video are people like him with similar regret stories of selling it all and going to Canada. One commenter says he looks back at selling all his property to japa as a form of madness.

Anyway enjoy the video and let us know what you think about Dr Peter or what he had to say

Rubbish trash nonsense . I work in medical feild and leaving Nigeria was the best decision I ever made.

Today I have a clear plan to achieve my goals . Pls all those of those who have been deported and banned from entering foreign countries or those who can't afford to travel should please stop disturbing people!!.

Leave them alone , you are all like the OP are bitter and angry and want to hold others back!!

The energy you use to source these stories why not use it to source stories of people like me and my friends who are doing very well abroad

Fellow Nigerians ignore these people and focus on your plans

Where do you think most of them got the money to japa in the first place? Of course from the property sales. A risk they are willing to take because of promises and sentiments of the first world, that's all. They may now get there and start seeing shege. Na dem sabi.

He's still a student and it shows... its a phase. Someone of his status emigrating should have done weighed the outcome beforehand.

Also, best time to emigrate is when young.
For many Nigerian medics emigrating has been overwhelmingly worth it.

Let's have him give another interview by the time he is all set with his medical credentials and able to practice as a certified medic in Canada.

Funny thing is that Canada medics much higher than the UK hence why many UK docs are leaving to Canda/Australia/New Zealand.
Also, an equivalent sum paid in Canada would go farther than in the UK.

All put, from the conversation, he regrets the move less as he settles in.
Also, he's still a student and not a medic. How many studentsback home enjoys what he he does there? Once he's certified, his chorus would change.

True.
You get my point. Abroad worth the risk tho' but I won't advise selling of property. If the plans failed you'll know you've something to fall back on.

The man touched the most salient points as he should.

No one is discouraging you to japa, but understand it's not all rosy over there too.

His message was simple "If you're doing very Ok in Nigeria, don't think about it"

Some of you are neither overseas nor have family members giving you update, but you're here calling him a liar ... Please sell all you belongings and japa, no one is stopping you!

🤣 The caveat has now become necessary, bah? I watched the video and I dived into the comments section too. I love YouTube's comment section for the diversity and candour often expressed there.

One comment in particular resonates with me (screenshot attached) because it is the same thing someone close to me said years ago when I asked her why she returned to Naija after her school programme? Why didn't she stay back, get a job and continue life over there?

She wasn't in any of the popular countries i.e. UK, US or Canada. A great country but I can't mention it because it may out me if she sees this. She said I can't explain it you and you may never grasp it, until you've lived there. But she still proceeded to explain it as best as she could.I perfectly grasped it and understood her.

The last sentence in the screenshot were the exact words and sentiments of my friend.
lmao oh yeah that caveat has become necessary so that those who never had any hopes oh japaing anyway will not come and use you as an excuse of you trying to put an obstacle in the way of their japa. Oh yeah YouTube’s comment section is totally my thing. Diverse and varied opinions. Now see that your friend? She is perfectly on point with her perceptions and her desire to exit because you can never get a full life experience being a second class citizen in most of these countries and like the man said they work you like a machine, however I am also not going to sit here and advocate for Nigeria being a great option either. Personally I think there are other better options within Africa . But yeah like the comment you quoted, many get trapped and can’t afford to exit and this is where depression kicks in. Truthfully the whole world is a ghetto of sorts. There are no respites anywhere. There is varying forms and degrees of hardship out there in the world. It’s a question of pick your poison

There is a reason why tourist or visitor visa was created.
If you like a place and you are not certain what the future holds for you if you Japa, go on a visit.
A 2 months visit there will make you draw your proper plan instead of permanent residency or student visa.
Just go and see things for yourself so as to avoid any lamentation.
Is that hard to do? And it is even cheaper.
Instead of using 15 to 20m for care work visa or student visa, use like 3m for visit and draw your plans.

You don't need to visit a place to draw your conclusions. Everything can be found on the internet nowadays.

What the speaker is going through now is usual and expected. It is a culture shock of having to meet a new way of doing things. Nigeria's culture is embedded in medical practice and such laxity is not tolerated over there.
He will get over it. I remembered my brother called me and complained of the nature of food in Melbourne Australia but he is use to it now.

Or you can sound out people close to you through honest conversations for their candid and unbiased views which is also a cost effective option. People whose judgment you can trust.

What you are proposing is not a bad idea either but a person's pocket can take a brutal hit with long vacation stays. Attached are screenshots of my posts from 2021 when Smile4mee01 created a thread asking if people had any regrets about returning to Naija from the diaspora.

These are real people I know well and personally and these were honest conversations. Some without prompting or me prying, shared their thoughts during normal conversations. It wasn't a Q & A session with me firing questions at them.

I would take anything from UK people with a pinch of salt.

Those guys are the most dishonest and ever complaining bunch I have ever encountered.

Infact, I will believe the word of an agbadodarian before I believe them.

Visit visa is still a good bet as these people lie a lot.

Another good way is to hear from non-Nigerian migrants. Anywhere one or more US citizen vets is good because they are on top of the food chain and can migrate almost anywhere in the world.
