The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has declared interest in joining the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) nationwide strike action which will commence on August 6, 2023.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that t he NLC is embarking on a two-day warning strike over the fuel subsidy removal, naira devaluation, and alleged threats by the Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike, to demolish properties belonging to workers in the federal capital.

ASUU President, Osedeke Emmanuel said the union will comply with NLC's directive on the planned strike.

"We are members of NLC, affiliates, therefore if they declare a strike, our members will be part of it," Emmanuel told The Whistler Newspaper.

"The ball is in the government's hands. Let them solve the problem, and then there won't be a strike. If NLC decides to go on strike, as an affiliate we don't have any option but to comply."

The over 81 universities that are members of ASUU may be affected by the planned strike. They include 43 federal universities and 38 state universities.

Tinubu need to find way to solve this high cost of fuel. Itโ€™s affecting the economy and people.

Fuel was increased with about 400% over night. The amount of salary increase will not cushion the effect. What about people who donโ€™t have salary at all? The 2b they are sharing to state doesnโ€™t have any meaningful impart as already predicted.

Its just a waste to buy time. He better tax Nigeria then leave the subsidy.

In my opinion fuel subsidy should come back and thatโ€™s if the Dollar exchange isnโ€™t coming down back to 200 where it was before this APC government comes to power.

Busybodies ASSU make them face their front. Make Dem no add to our misfortune's by trying to waste our students time. NUC is compromised, the tinubu government has strategically planted moles in their midsts to keep destabilizing them. Nothing will come out of any stupid strike/meetings. ASSU should just stay out. It's painful to admit, the tribunal will uphold tinubus victory and their isn't anything we can do about it. This country is ran by leaders who behaves like cartels. This country is gone.

He has given the gullible Nigerians 8K as palliative for 8 years in place of the money for subsidy cheesy. They say subsidy is an organised crime but one man now pockets the whole money and nobody fit talk. Nigerians just lack sense sad

They want to join strike, whereas they're the ones helping install bad government in the country. Or have they forgotten so soon what University professors did while acting as election coalition officers? Nonsense, they're mad. Bunch of idiots

You can't be taken serious by the same government who send you on stupid errands and you willingly obey, youths helped snatch balot boxes during elections, university lecturers help rig the results so how is the government supposed to take you serious? We need to get sense, until then nothing is going to work.
