Wema Bank: Trying To Extort Me. by Ikamandoncome: 2:31pm On Sep 06, 2023
Nairalanders I registered a Private limited liability company with the CAC through my lawyer.I decided to create a cooperate account with Wema bank, they are demanding that I pay #8600 to check if I'm the owner of the CAC certificate,to check if my company is really on CAC website, something that I can do with my phone.

Nairalanders my company is an agricultural company.

Nairalanders is the bank official trying to extort me or is that a fee to pay when creating a cooperate account?

I know that banks do request for payment for company search, but I don't know if it's fixed amount for all banks or varies.
The fund will be charged from your account so you need not bothered of overpaying. It's a system charge, and you will see the narration. As long as you are not paying into individual account, you are good.

Approach another branch of wema first, if you actually prefer the account with Wema.
If you are given an amount, find out if it's the standard amount for Wema bank or it's just individual/case specific.
The change in amount from him might just be an oversight, and not intentional. That is, he wasn't sure of the actual when he told you 8k before changing it to 8600.
Alternatively, send a mail to seek for the requirements of opening a corporate account and asked if there is a standard cost attached to the opening of such account
