Why has Nigeria abandoned her coal deposits while better countries are so reliant on coal?

If they plunder coal like oyel, the voice of SE and SS will be too loud to silence. It is better the SS alone is chosen for victimization in the eyes of the One-Nigeria schemers.

First Reason:
They were made to believe coal is not a clean source of energy.( Which is a a lie depending on usage, machine and method of processing)

Second Reason:
It's rich deposit is in the south East, you know what that means. South East is just part of Nigeria on paper. Anything that would develop the south East is a no go area for Nigeria.

Nigeria and her citizens no work!

Your first reason is the lie they have being telling us for a long time, but as for your second reason, why would a reasonable government not tap a resource that will benefit them just because of hate for the region that the resource is found?

It's the copy copy lifestyle of our people and those oversabi people that enjoy pep talks at government functions and decision making forums..

From my own little research, India and China with the world's largest populations in the billions followed closely by USA with about 750 million people still have a large percentage of their citizens that depend on coal, firewood etc.. forget all the rosy rosy they potray on CNN and what have you.. there are low income population in those places who rely on fossil fuels to survive.

But come to Nigeria, you'll see doctors, PhD holders, professors etc. that are complete olodos calling for ban on everything their White masters ask.. you have not fully harnessed coal, crude oil and natural gas and you're already jumping to solar and 'renewables, condemning everything your country is blessed with naturally.. Please at whose loss?
I'm not saying the new energy sources should be ditched, what I'm saying is follow everything with sense while you continue to protect your own natural resources. Not to be condemning everything in the ground and be running faster than your shadow.

Your second reason said what i was just about to say! All other reasons….including that coal is a dirty fuel, are all secondary or diversionary (when last did a pang of environmental conscience stop the Abuja political elite from wanting to make a few extra bucks)!

The major reason they are not and probably will not look at coal is because it would primarily benefit the Igbo/south-east, as well as Kogi, over and above the other two! And that is a strict no-no as per dick-measuring things!

the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. In a region where the love of money is a virtue to behold, what do you expect ?

It's too dirty for now. They will face it when crude oil is exhausted.

Even though coals and natural gas deposits' abandonment is meant to punish Igbos, it has turned out to become a blessing for obvious reservation and environmental reasons. Even if they wish to tamper with it today, they will not be allowed.

Awesome submission! I feel bad whenever our government jump onto the next trending resources abandoning the ones we have in abundance that will give us scale of economic advantage.

I still doubt this reason though. Does it mean that hatred for the region that has the coal deposits is more paramount to our leaders and decision makers than economic gain for all?

Sharap.

Nigeria signed a treaty with the EU not to exploit their coal deposits citing climate change bullshit but the real reason was to deny China another trade avenue with Nigeria . This was signed by Obasanjo.

Besides, Enugu coal has too much sulfur and is not as lucrative for this reason.

Your second reason is the main reason, it is also the same reason Nigerian government intentionally abandoned a lot of crude oil sites in Southeast just to sabotage Southeast economy.

That is why they cringe at the hearing of an Igbo man becoming President of Nigeria, they know it will undo a lot of secret barricades they placed against Igbos and Igbo region's development in Nigeria
