Busted: Uzodimma, INEC in Secret Plot to Rig Guber Election Using FUTO

*Gov. Payrolls staff, distributes subsidy palliative to them

Facts have emerged of plans being hatched by the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma in connivance with INEC to use the Professors, Lecturers and junior staff at Federal University of Technology Owerri [FUTO] to rig the November 11, 2023, governorship election in the State.

As of the time of this report, discussions are said to be ongoing and the plan has remained a secret between the Governor, Imo INEC REC, Prof. Sylvia Agu, the FUTO Vice Chancellor Prof. Nnena Oti and other top management staff of the university.

A source in the University who does not want her name published revealed that the plan will see the State Government pay compliant FUTO staff members huge sums of money and other benefits and then facilitate their use as Presiding Officers, Collation Officers and Returning Officers during the election.

“Leveraging the relationship, the Governor wants to use them to his advantage. They will help him manipulate the outcome of the polls in connivance with INEC. The Governor's ally and Commissioner for Justice, C.O.C Akolisa, whose brother is a professor in the University, is strongly involved in pushing the plan.” she said.

The source forwarded to our correspondent a private message sent to a FUTO staff member by the VC which pointed to the plan.

The message partly read: “I met with the Governor of Imo State yesterday HE Hope Uzodinma and he has graciously approved the following palliatives for my beloved FUTO Staff
1) Food stuff: details for delivery and distribution will be communicated ASAP”.

“2) Direct CASH TRANSFER TO ALL FUTO JUNIOR STAFF: Please liaise immediately with your members and Bursar to provide the following details immediately for ALL FUTO JUNIOR STAFF ON OUR PAY ROLL: Name: JS No: Grade Level: Bank Account details: BVN. Above information should get to the VC this week for immediate disbursement”

The message also said that “the State government will use FUTO staff as consultants” and will as well use them as “enumerators”.

Mr. Matthew Mbanaso Ugo, a concerned citizen who got the wind of the information said that FUTO must now be watched closely, describing the deal with the Governor as suspicious, especially as it is a Federal University.

He said: “It's hard to understand what that means because FUTO is even a federal university. Imagine the Governor distributing palliatives made for the less privileged citizens to them and paying them as well. Journalists and civil society organizations have to wade in and investigate what is going on.”

“It seems that the plan is to use FUTO staff to conduct the election. Akaolisa's elder brother is a Professor in FUTO, Ikpamezie still has his groups in the university. The Imo REC Prof. Sylvia Agu is always a willing tool and we all saw her shameful outing in the last election” he concluded.
