How I Lost My Business To Self-doubt And Fear. by TimeArena1(f): 10:17pm On Sep 07, 2023 |
In 2019, I registered my first business. (Home Fixers Integrated Services) Home fixers was basically into cleaning houses, offices, schools, churches, move-in and move-out, and post-construction services. When I started I could say the business was new to me and I didn't have prior knowledge of the business. I only had an idea about it, did research on it, and followed up on it. I was fortunate to get a mentor who held my hand and walked me through everything I needed to know about this business. She taught me everything from branding, costing, inspection, and project execution. I imagine myself as the first person to run such a business in my town because people were interested in my service. I got tons of calls and messages to come for inspections and I did go for some. I did some jobs with the supervision of my mentor till fear and self-doubt started creeping in. I reckon the fear came from my dissatisfaction with some of the jobs I did. I believed I could have done better than I did and that immediately made me start shrinking. Anytime I go for an inspection and the property is massive and new, I surmise that I couldn't do it. I didn't outrightly tell my clients I couldn't execute the projects, I rather gave outrageous quotations that sent them away. I could remember going for one inspection at one estate in Warri. That was my first time seeing a modern 7-bedroom duplex with state-of-the-art and modern interiors. The house was so finee that I wished it was mine😂 They are a family of doctors and they needed my services for bi-weekly cleaning. After I finished the inspection, I told the lady I would send a quotation. For 2 days I thought over and over and concluded that I couldn't do that job. What if I take my staff there and they steal? What if they break things? What if we don't deliver as promised? What if I damage some of their properties with chemicals that are not supposed to be used? I asked myself a lot of questions and that was when I finally decided to send the lady an outrageous quotation. She called and negotiated but I told her there was no room for negotiation. Over time, I rejected more jobs and finally gave up on the business because of Fear and Self-doubt. Now, Take a second to think about all the opportunities you lost because you doubted your capabilities... Hmmm.... I just did and I am not happy because if not for self-doubt I would have been an authority figure in my niche. Homefixers would have grown and I would have executed a ton of projects. Self-doubt is your No. 1 enemy and shouldn't be allowed to thrive in your life. There's nothing you can't do if you set your heart to it✍✍✍ © Donor Rachel. O. 5 Likes
