Meet Mrs. Seun Martins: Balancing Family And Farming Success by Vetsark: 4:56pm On Sep 14, 2023
Hi there, I'm Mrs. Seun Martins. Let's rewind to 2018; I was a newlywed with a 6-month-old baby and a pile of bills. My bachelor’s degree had me toiling away for meager wages, but deep inside, I knew my destiny was greater.

πŸ”πŸŒ± Poultry farming seemed like my calling. A burning desire to create something meaningful for my family and community fueled me. I may not have known the ins and outs of raising chickens initially, but I was determined to be my own boss, supply healthy poultry products, and generate job opportunities. So, in 2018, I took the leap, immersed myself in courses and training, and embarked on this new adventure.

In the early days, financial challenges dictated that I start small, with just 100 broilers and 50 layers. I'd raise the broilers and sell them during festive seasons. That was my routine until early 2023 when I finally found a solution to my financial hurdles.

But let me tell you, the poultry business can be a harsh teacher. The true lessons only become apparent when you're deep in the trenches. I was eager to learn but faced financial struggles. It was a learning curve I hadn't quite anticipated.

I had grander aspirations. So, in 2023, I stumbled upon Vetsark, an agricultural fintech company dedicated to helping poultry farmers access funding while offering reduced interest rates for women like me. That was a turning point! My poultry venture began to transform, and my life started to change for the better.

This journey granted me the flexibility to thrive as a working mom, raising two energetic boys while building a thriving business. Today, my farm boasts over 50,000 birds, putting food on the table not only for my team but also for the clients who purchase my products.

Here are some invaluable lessons I've picked up along the way:

Consistency: If I had given up when I had just 200 birds, I'd never have reached the impressive 50,000 birds I manage today. Anything worth doing is worth doing well.

Value Family: Juggling family and business remains a challenge for all working mothers. We often feel the pressure to excel in entrepreneurship while grappling with the guilt of missing family moments. Establish clear boundaries and schedule family time as diligently as business appointments. Remember, there's no "maternity leave" when you're self-employed.

Remember Self-Care: Poultry farming is unpredictable, demanding, and sometimes messy. It's easy to neglect self-care amid the chaos. Allocate time for personal growth and pamper yourself with massages, shopping, or non-agriculture-related classes. You can't care for others unless you care for yourself.

Invest in Yourself: Keep your knowledge fresh through reading, courses, networking, and attending agricultural events. Invest in becoming a better version of yourself, and expanding your expertise.

Women might find it challenging to thrive in male-dominated industries but never say never. Know your goals and go for them. You can excel too if you have the desire.

You can also thrive in your poultry farming business, and with Vetsark by your side, your journey will be smoother. Download the Vetsark App on the Google Play Store and embark on your path to greatness. πŸŒŸπŸ“πŸ“ˆ
