There has never been good times in Nigeria. From the second the British flag was lowered on October 1st 1960, and the Nigerian flag hoisted up, Nigeria has declined. Today, Nigeria is a monumental disaster of a country, and its only future is eventual disintegration. Things have gone from bad to worse to worst to worstest, if there is such a word

However, Nigeria's best times was when Igbos were in charge. Zik became President of a country with 3 Regions, a 4th Region created in 1963, all 4 Regions controlling their resources, contributing to the centre, progressing at their own pace and engaged in healthy competition

Like almost every country in Africa at the time, Nigeria experienced military coup that resulted in the Army boss, General Ironsi, assuming power. Democracy was lost, however, Ironsi kept the 4 Regions he met and allowed them resource control. Some propagandists say he destroyed federalism with decree 34 but these are people who never read the decree to realise it was just a civil service matter

Ironsi died in another coup 6 months later and Gowon took over. Gowon enacts Decree 14 that abolished all 4 Regions Nigeria had, created 12 new states, and followed this up with Decree 15 that abolished resource control, thus taking Nigeria into full blown unitary rule. All this was a calculated move to make the North masters of Nigeria. In retaliation, Ojukwu declared the Eastern Region Biafra, and a civil war followed

After the civil war, Nigeria had a period of huge oil sales that were wasted on white elephant projects and corruption

Murtala Mohammed ended Gowons 9 year rule and increased Nigerias unitary rule by increasing the number of States in Nigeria to 19. Five more coups would follow with each military ruler embarking on state creation, started by Gowon, until we got to 36.

Today, Nigeria is world poverty capital, 8th most insecure country on earth, and one of the most corrupt.

Nigeria has never known good times, but its best times were Zik and Ironsi times.

The best time for Nigeria is still ahead.

States are currently running up huge debt they can not pay because their resources are being plundered by the federal government. The more they owe the more they'd begin to clamour to control their own resources.

Then, Nigeria go better.

Very apt and clear for all to see that Nigeria is irredeemable.

Judge Nigeria based on what is happening in your life economically. Forget about tribalism or religion look at your lives before u start saying Nigeria is great.

U graduate and nothing for u yet u carry tribalism as a badge of honour looking for 30k job up and down.

U will know how far.

The guy does not know anything. Maybe he meant during Tafawa Balewa ! Aguoyi Ironsi spent less than 7months when he was killed.
So what OP saying.
Revising history on Decree 14 won't help OP as it's very clear in History the A. Ironsi introduced Unitary System of Government into Nigeria

Tafawa Balewa and the Northerners were the ones with real power in the First republic.. Azikiwe was just a figure head talkative playing second fiddle to North.. reason he connived with Ironsi and other Igbos in the Army to orchestrate a bloody coup to seize power from North.

What followed?.. a counter coup by Northerners in the Army that killed Ironsi barely 6 months into his regime.

Bia.. which power are you referring to?. cos Igbos have always played second fiddle and errand boy role to North.

grin grin grin

I guess the Op don't know how the 4th region came about.

Notwisthanding having the majority in their regional parliament, a particular region voted overwhelmingly for the creation of the 4th region from theirs, while the other two regions were opposed to minorities self rule despite agitations for autonomous regions

Thank you very much for this post. I am not Igbo but from Southern Kaduna, and I have been offline for weeks now before seeing this post and decide to log in.

I have been going into the problems of Nigeria and after discovering it I will assure you today that Nigeria will soon or later split into many nations. If you go through my posts right from the first you'll find out I am almost never wrong about my assertions, everything.

I continue to prepare in spirit for a civil War in this nation and things are perfectly working towards that, if you have eyes you too can see. I am only happy now that the Igbos will have no small amount of allies and partners in the next crisis to come, Nigeria's regions and people are more aware now.

Now I do not pray for things bad but we all of us deep down know where Nigeria is heading, it no secret. The North is likely dividing into three countries, the South about the same number. I only wish we can partition the country now in times of so-called peace, which will make it easier to do. Than in times of crisis making it even hard.

Something important will happen in a few time or more from now which I might try and post about and then you can be sure the time is come.

Economically give it to igbos…one of the reasons I feel pain Abiola mandate was annulled. He wanted to run football like business. Igbos would have made Nigerian football a multi billion dollar business if IBB and Abacha had allowed Abiola to exercise his mandate, by now 90% of people in black Africa would have been so fixated on Nigeria football entertainment that they would not be able to name any 3 top European clubs because most of our national team players would be playing in Nigeria League that would be lucrative

The only time Igbos rule this country was between January 15 to July 16 1966. And yes, Agunyi Ironsi was a terrible leader who should never have been local government chairman not to talk of head of state. His incompetency led to the progrom and the civil war.

Olodo op, Nnamdi Azikiwe did not hold any significant political power; he was a ceremonial president. Sir Tafawa Balewa was the one who wielded real authority and ran the government, while Azikiwe's role was more akin to that of a foreign minister in today's context.
