Starting with French President Emmanuel Macron, who announced to reporters that the French ambassador to Niger is being held by the coup council there, and that he is being treated like a hostage and is provided with only limited amounts of food. France is trying to rally European public opinion behind its cause, claiming that Russia and its armed arm, Wagner, intend to overthrow all French and Western influence from West Africa.

Finally, the episode denies reports of the coup council in Niger banning the export of uranium ore to France, confirming the continued monopoly of French companies on exporting the precious metal uranium to Europe.
