Coco Gauff’s moment of gratitude after debut US Open win

Coco Gauff, the 19-year-old tennis sensation, showed that she’s much more than her age suggests. She lost the first set 2-6 to Aryna Sabalenka but then bounced back spectacularly. The three set comeback victory (2-6, 6-3, 6-2) showed her incredible determination.

The world No.1 Sabalenka started strong, but couldn’t keep up with Gauff’s unwavering focus. But what happened after the last point was also very interesting. As the crowd cheered loudly for their new champion, Coco Gauff shut her eyes and started to pray.

It was a moment where she deeply thought about things and connected with her beliefs in a way that reverberated beyond the echoes of the tennis court. In her on-court interview during the trophy presentation, Coco Gauff opened up about her faith as well. The host asked, “What does it mean to win first Grand Slam on home soil?”


Gauff stated, “Oh my goodness! [Loud cheers] It means so much to me. I feel like I am a little bit of a shock in this moment. That French Open loss was a heartbreak for me.

“But I realized God puts you through tribulations and trials. This makes this moment even sweeter than I could imagine […] I don’t pray for results. I just ask that I get the strength to give it my all. Whatever happens, happens. I’m so blessed in this life.”

I don't think I have ever seen any winner in a tennis grand slam doing such a thing, not to talk of a teenage winner, so that suggests that not all hope is lost for the younger generation. In Jesus name!

I mean, many teenagers have won grand slams, including Serena and her sister Venus, but I can't remember any one of them giving glory to God for their feats, so shouldn't that be encouraging signs if you're truly of God?

The power, strength and energy needed to swing the racket and play the tennis

The speed and agility moving around court

That's my problem with the Christian god. Now He's used his power to make this girl win but couldn't save the Christians that were killed while worshipping in a church at Owo.

To start with God is great even if she falter away, she will still come back to herself at a point. Bring up a child in the way he should go, so when he grows up he will not depart.
