I have a felicity inverter 3.5KVA with 4 batteries 200AH wet cells that was setup to charge with grid supply,
I recently got some panels and a 100A felicity charge controller, the installers did the install and all seems well,
but I need the charge controller and inverter to communicate and not overcharge my batteries ,

Please what kind of cable should I buy or crimp ? , the charge controller com port is not labelled with the type either serial , CAN or Modbus, just a Rj 45 port, but the inverter is labelled with serial and RS485 . help Biko

You said the installers did the job well so why are you still bothered. It's is the job of the charge controller to manage your battery charging process including overcharging.

But the inverter is also connected to grid and also charges the same battery at the same time as the charge controller. the manual says they can be connected to control the charging

If connected to grid means it uses power from the utility company then it either means the inverter has a built in battery charger for use when it is connected to public grid or you have a separate battery charger that you use to charger the battery and with that you don't need the charge controller when it is connected to the grid.

Charge controller is to prevent your battery from overcharging most especially when you use alternative source of energy with wind or solar to charge your battery.
If you intend to charge with power from the utility company you need a battery charger. Some inverters have a built in battery charger with overcharge protection built into them.

guess my question was not clear I have both, the charge controller and inverter,
inverter has grid input and can charge the batteries , the charge controller is also charging the same batteries ,
what I am trying to achieve is connecting both through the provided com port and synch the charging such that my batteries do not get over charged due to multiple sources connected to them

Hello Sir, were you able to resolve this? i am in the same shoes and wondering how to connect the cables so both devices can talk to each other.
