Just a week ago, precisely Tuesday September 12, the Nigerian entertainment industry was thrown into a mourning mood following the news of the unfortunate death of a 27 years old, musical artiste, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, professionally known as MohBad.

The fast-rising singer who was a father of a boy, Liam, who clocked five months on the day he died was said to have performed in Ikorodu less than 48 hours before his death.

The recent revelations trailing MohBad’s death is mind-boggling and to say the least, highly traumatic. Multiple evidence that has surfaced after his death and some of the lyrics he waxed while alive have proven, beyond doubts, a serious case of brazen bullying by some of his former associates, presumably leading to depression, among other health concerns for the late musician.

While the circumstances leading to his demise was not really established before he was hurriedly lowered into Mother Earth as if there was a communal conspiracy to shut down further leads on his death, others have also faulted the location and the manner in which the late musician was forced into an undersized coffin with his head twisted so as to accommodate him.

In a video that has gone viral on social media platforms, a Baale (local chief) in Ikorodu area of Lagos said the late singer’s father had originally intended to hold a midnight funeral on the same day of his son’s passing, but he fiercely objected to the idea.He added that he had voiced his dissatisfaction with the planned course of action and made it clear that midnight burial wouldn’t take place.

It is highly commendable that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has authorised a “thorough” investigation into the death while the Police in a statement said a 13-man special investigative team is expected to submit an interim report within two weeks on

The Police must step in and dismiss, via organised action and thorough investigation, such erroneous impressions.

The Lagos state commissioner of police, Idowu Owohunwa, while inaugurating the special team directed the commencement of a full-scale criminal investigation into the death of the 27-year-old singer.

The committee is to carry out a discreet investigation which covers the following areas: a. Exhumation; b. Autopsy/toxicology/histology; c. Scene visit; d. Hospital/ Medical Report and e. Records of Suspects/witnesses statements.

According to the police “The panel will also identify witnesses, culprits if any and any person that will be helpful to the investigative process and deploy processes and other technological tools to aid the investigative course in line with the relevant provisions of the Nigeria”.

It is also heartwarming that Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu said he has invited the Department of State Services (DSS), to join in the investigation of the late singer’s death.

Across the country, youths are already protested the death of the musician while also demanding justice for him. There have been protests in Delta, Ogun, Lagos, Oyo and in Akure, the Ondo State capital, as well as Ogun State. On social media platforms, the hashtag #Justice4MohBad is trending.

Painful as MohBad’s death might seem, getting his memory justice could assuage many nerves and equally send a strong message that there is an active and responsible government in place. It will also send a message to bullies that there is no place for them in this country.
