Indeed. That seems a very relevant fact. It's weird, to say the least, to make out like the Benin Kingdom banned slavery in the 1500's - while continuing to trade women and children after. You can only claim to ban slavery when there are no exceptions to the institution. It's not even worth mentioning that "well, you know.....AKSHUALLY, the trading of male slaves was banned".

Also, slaves were traded to Europeans as late as the 18th century in Gwato. And Philip Igbafe, a well-cited Edo historian documents the institution of slavery in Benin surviving into the 19th century. I've also not heard the "limey claim" of being the "first to ban slavery". For sure, the British were integral to the abolitionist movement, given their global reach and naval strength - so they were clearly key to abolishing the institution around the world. You could also fairly accurately say they stopped the transatlantic slave trade. But that's not the same as claiming they were the first people to ban slavery. You're just inventing strawmen and getting mad at the strawmen you're inventing - much like when you somehow made it out like I claimed "the British invaded Benin because of slavery", which was just plucked out of thin air.

"Ethiopian" (no meaning in Hebrew or Aramaic) referred to dark skinned people in Greek (Africans for sure, but Homer's works also used the term to refer to Eastern Turks and Indians) - and of course, most of the contact Greeks and Greek-speaking people would have had would be with North Africans and Horn of Africa dwellers, navigating the Mediterranean and Red Sea. No, Israelites and Ethiopians aren't "one and the same people". They have vastly different histories, are located and indigenous to different locations, speak vastly different languages. There was a minority Ethiopian community who practised Judaism for millennia and most eventually performed aliyah to Israel.
