Hey guys. Just came across an interesting "argument" in X (formerly twitter) and thought to share.

Ibironke Khadeejah Quadri wrote:

I am always surprised when they paint the UK healthcare systems as eldorado. I have been working in the same system for 19years. Used to be quite good but the last 10years things has deteriorated really bad. Talk about dentals for Instance, how many people actually has access to NHS dental care? Even the British go to Spain , Turkey and other European countries. I definitely do most of my complex dental care in Nigeria, always plan it on my holidays.
Fertility care is another, most people come to Nigeria 🇳🇬 for IVF, I have referred many to Hospitals in Lagos
Gp access now is almost impossible in most areas. I recently lost an Aunt that we had to pay £4000 per week for chemotherapy privately within the same UK before she passed.
So pray Hard not to fall sick in the UK because you might struggle and suffer needlessly except of course you have private medical insurance so let’s be careful about things we say. UK is good no doubt but certainly not without it’s own huge flaws and challenges too. Given the choice I will pay to have certain care and surgeries in Nigeria than UK . Before you insult me, I was a ward Manager at Imperial college London so I know the system so well and better than some of you

Oluwaseun responded:

Of course, the UK healthcare isn't perfect, but such comparison is lame to begin with. Do UK doctors go on strike every time? Aside strike, do they lack equipment & amenities to deliver good care? Can we say the same for Nigeria? Anyone who isn't happy should return to Naija!

And then the arguments began...............

Kindly share your thoughts guys..

Juxtaposing a lawless country with a law abiding country is insane.

Most of these people are comparing public hospitals in UK with both private and public in Nigeira. We have quacks in Nigeria in the name of private hospitals. At least we read the case of the doctor removing kidney of patients. That can never happen in the UK.

Nigeria, we are lawless, we can buy every medication over the counter without prescription. That's what we call good healthcare. SMH

Nigeria private hospitals are saturated, you can check in any any time so far you have the funds. Since we are used to gra gra approach, we get what we want, that's good health care.

Nigeria where you need to know someone before you can get quick attention is what we call good health care but when it gets out of hand, UK is a safe haven. Ask the poor man in the village if he gets same treatment like the middle class.

Forget it, our lawlessness seems to be best approach to everything. We are used to it so, going through proper channel is never in our blood and we see a lawful country with proper channel as bad.
