Air Peace is urging UK authorities to allow slots access at London Heathrow (LHR), according to a report by Nigerian newspaper The Whistler. The news comes as the airline has recently obtained the UK Third Country Operator (TCO) authorization.

Following the recent approval to fly to the UK, the country's aviation authorities have proposed Air Peace to run flight operations from either London Stansted (STN) or London Gatwick (LGW). Both airports are on the UK's list of the top five busiest. However, the chief executive of the airline, Allen Onyema, rejected the offer by the UK authorities, citing the Bilateral Air Service Agreement (BASA).

The chief executive of the airline is advocating for Air Peace to establish service to a 'primary airport,' emphasizing that UK carriers, including British Airways and Virgin Atlantic, possess the capacity to operate flights from Nigeria's primary airports, including Muhammed International Airport (LOS) and Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport (ABV).

When discussing the choice to decline the offer, Onyema shared his perspective with The Whistler:

"It took seven years for them to come and do the audit. Now we have got the approval. The next thing is slots, and they are telling us to go to London Stansted or take London Gatwick. I'm not going to Stansted or Gatwick. You come to the primary airport in Nigeria, and by BASA, you enjoy the two primary airports. So, you will give me your own primary airport. It must be Heathrow or nothing."

Why are LHR slots so valuable?

The most coveted airport slots in the UK, and indeed among the most sought-after globally, are located at LHR. Heathrow stands as one of the world's busiest aviation hubs, accommodating over 60 million passengers annually.

Known for its extensive global connectivity terminals tailored for major airline alliances, securing access to LHR slots is a significant milestone that elevates an airline's presence in the industry.

In congested airports like LHR, the number of new slots available is very limited. With slot demand here vastly exceeding supply, the market has become furious. One of the most expensive deals to make media attention was the purchase in 2016 of a pair of slots by Oman Air from Air France-KLM for $75 million. Similarly, top prices were paid in 2015 by American Airlines, $60 million for a pair of slots from SAS.

Heathrow or nothing has a lot of meaning. It connects many countries and will give Mr Onyema more gain. "BUT"

What do you even expect Allen Onyema(Airpeace). You were given the two different airports to be able to screen Nigerians coming in to UK for drugs thoroughly. Heathrow is very busy for such thorough screening.

This is because our president is once a drug baron. When a country is been govern by a drug cartel, every country will be very cautious.

I don't blame UK. Sorry Airpeace, even Nigeria citizens with green passport see shege in various airports.

Privilege given to Kenya, Ethiopian airways etc with danfo-like looking dirty planes is denied to clean Airpeace.

The West see Africans as their slaves thanks to the house niggas/puppets we have as leaders. You take slots @ the two busiest airport in Nigeria. Yet you don't want to give us the same opportunity in your country. This is a master-slave relationship.

Everything is wrong with Gatwick....
1. Bilateral trade relationship states that I enjoy the same amount of benefits you are enjoying from my country. You cannot be enjoying first class treatment in my country and I will get a second class or no treatment from you.

2. Operating from Gatwick or any other airports in the UK will make it mandatory for any connecting Air Peace bound passenger to get UK transit visa before he can legally transit through the city to another airport to connect.
This is going to be a disaster for Air Peace.

3. They want to continue the duopoly of direct flights to the UK from Nigeria. UK route is the busiest route from Nigeria and only British Airways and Virgin Atlantic are milking it with killer prices. If Air Peace should get the slot, that would be a major breakthrough for all passengers on that route.
Air Peace will break the price.... BA and VA will have no choice than to reconsider their pricing options, likewise other airlines on that route to remain in business.

These oyibos are very greedy, na Igbo people fit them because the average Igbo person doesn't see anything superior in a white man, he always believes that if a white man can do it he can also do it and won't take less, FG should support Air Peace, its like asking British Airways to go to Minna and Kaduna International Airports because they are close to Abuja

Nothing wrong with British Airways going to Kaduna International Airport because its close to Abuja.
If they accept Kaduna Airport which is also International, Air Peace will accept Gatwick based on BASA, imagine that it took them 7 years to come for auditing in Nigeria while making all the money alone. They are afraid of competition from a Nigerian Airline

These are the type of issues someone like Obi will deal decisively on. But the old druggie is more desperate to be accepted than to even look them in the eyeballs.
