The solution to Nigerian problems need political will and common sense but our armchair online economists will beg to differ. Nigeria can refine and corner the whole African market which is a lot. But because there is no political will, corrupt politicians and their cronies are making billions importing refined version of what we export in this 2023/24.

Ask the ones supporting the floating of naira, you will realize that they are mere echo-chambers who have no iota idea of what they are supporting. A patriotic Nigerian who is willing to throw away borrowed Economics and focus on Nigeria can fix many of the major issues in less than 2 years. The woman selling garri at Alaba Rago doesn't need an Economics degree from Harvard to understand the concept of Demand and Supply. Such local sense is what Nigeria needs now instead of trying to be more white than the Caucasians.

/

I don't think we are serious about defeating poverty. We should continue overyhyping our bushes we call city while having a sense of faux-superiority. The poverty is hitting everyone 😢.

No nation in this word will operate the type of economics we operate in Nigeria and excel. How can you even let the oil industry die when it's what we have strong advantages on. Money made from refining our products and cornering the African markets would have been more than the money made selling cheap raw crude. Is it that as a race we lack foresight? Because I'm yet to understand why we can't see beyond our nose.

Ask anyone who buys cars from any USA salvage auction. When you log into the auction website it is the law that each car must have its ACV(Actual Car Value) number and the Estimated repair cost value. The difference between the two numbers should closely match the Reserve value of the car. The Reserve value is the expected value the insurance company thinks the car will sell for. Nigeria Custom need to use the Reserve number in their valuation calculation. It's a very simple process

If they do this, a number of cars at the port would be cleared and government would rake in some good revenue. It's awkward to keep vehicles at the port just wasting away for nothing. This simple process would avoid the current wastage of resources. I want to believe the system is the way it is because of corruption and those benefiting from the current system.

Didn't know nairaland still had people with this measure of intelligence.

Last time I made a similar inference on a subject related to the basis of this thread, a few persons labeled me a twisted conspiracy theorist.

Diseases, pestilences, wars, inflationary indices, negative economies, are all creations of a select few who are keen on devising means of cutting down world population. It's the reason why first world countries deliberately foist bad leaders on third world countries. Any country that is lucky enough to have a leader that will want to work towards self-sufficiency is antagonised and the said leader assassinated. Gaddafi of Libya, Yaradua of Nigeria, etc.

Nations are deliberately impoverished so the populations without the means can simply die off. HIV/AIDS was not potent enough to kill Africans, so they kept experimenting. Ebola was created and brought to our shores, we all know the story. Covid ended up killing them more than the intended targets, Africans. So they hurriedly found a cure. Most wild fires in the US and Canada are not natural disasters, and some very objective minds know this.

So far, the most potent tool of population reduction amongst the black race has been hunger and they keep using it. And instead of us finding ways to work together and beat the odds, we're busy fighting ourselves with religion and tribal sentiments, same ideologies they have planted in us to push for chaos.

thanks for the in-depth enlightenment ,

the one positive thing about all this is that, it forces people to turn to God, and no dark skin person should ever forget that our situation is the worst on earth. And some will call that a blessing.

So that if we are denied the economic survival game , that too is a blessing , for we are left no choice but to play the spiritual survival game.
old game is out, new game in town.

One thing i do know is that, having great respect for every atom that sustains and creates life , opens doors to worlds hidden in plain sight.
Respect the plants and animals , be their janitor , when the humble worm is your your master , the earth water and fire will open up to you.
The water and the air is the same person never forget that, liquid or vapor , as such we are still breathing water like the fish.

Time to go back to identifying with your elementals , for the smallest things really do run the world , not those living on borrowed time.

So help us God

Shut up and stop saying nonsense ignorantly.
Nigeria is not lazy.
We produce CRUDE OIL AND MANY AGRICULTURAL PRODUCE, which is enough for any nation to thrive well with good governance.
Don't allow the west to deceive you with saying Nigeria is not producing anything.
Saudi Kuwait, UAE, Oman etc are living large and they're also basically producing crude oil

Saudi , UAE etc don't just produce "crude oil," they refine too. Infact, Saudi Aramco made more profits from its refinery than what we made selling raw crude oil.

Saudi doesn't exchange crude oil for refined products and they dominate larger part of the middle east with their products. Now, let's talk about Nigeria.

Say we made crude oil sales of $100 in August. That same August we made imports of fuel and diesel with $60, leaving $40 in the coffers to sort other importations. Now, business men, Students, shoppers will have to chase that scarce $40 with their surplus naira so they could make their imports or clear international payments. If Mr. A (A businessman) is willing to pay #900/$, others too will want to meet up so they can meet their $ needs. This here is what leads to devaluation of the currency.

Because you want to defend BAT read what you post again.

What to do differently.
Let's fuel price be N300 . Pay have the subside
The previous government were paying the economy was better. Let nobody deceiv you.

When our refinery begin to work, I will now implement full subside..

Note. Nothing will change in this country if the cost of fuel remain this high.

Point 2.

According to you, citizens should change attitude. How about government changing their attitude.

The naira was 470 before BAT took over, now it's 1000. The question is why did he float the naira? When we are only importing. He is taking wrong decisions but because you are not wise you think he is doing well and should not be criticize.

If you don't know criticizing him is our own contribution to the growth of the economy.

What police have he implement to bring down the price of naira or fuel since he assumed office.

He is just busy traveling.

Thanks for your swift response.
By the way, it is great to see how you would have done things differently. In my own opinion, subsidizing petrol and naira will plunge the economy further. The reality of the past is different from the present. Currently, we are faced with a global economic crisis. The almighty American economy fell from AAA to AA+ this year. The policy of BAT to some extent is great. Floating the naira and subsidy removal are both good ideas. This is where we have issues:
1. Can the naira compete in the open market? The answer is a complete no cos Nigeria is a consuming nation. Nigeria needs citizens with the right attitude to adopt Nigerian-made products reducing reliance on foreign products. Placing an embargo on a foreign product may work but Nigerians will still complain and say no alternative measure was put in place before placing an embargo on some product.
2. Will refineries go a long way in reducing pump prices? Yes, it will and we have one major refinery project going on in the country. I don't buy the idea of the government operating a refinery. Nigerians have a bad attitude towards government work. They will crumble it all in the name of national cake and right.
3. Finally, we need serious, creative, and patriotic youth. We need youth who can innovate. In hard times like this, instead of complaining and wishing the government to fail, we need to contribute our own quota to the community we belong to.

On a good day, the average Nigerians is wicked and selfish and that's the true reflection of our government. The people in government were once citizens like us.

You are very correct.
COVID-19 was created specifically to kill Black people or peeps with black dominant genes..
They've been able to map out our genomes courtesy of the numerous aids and vaccines they give to Africa for free..
COVID-19 backfired so badly. It boomeranged on them, killing them in the tens of millions.. I doubt if africa suffered up to 50k deaths.
Bill Gates even had a Freudian slip.. commenting on the expected death toll in Africa. They were expecting to see dead bodies in the millions littered across Black Africa .
The virus mutated to delta, omicron and kept killing until they were forced to bring out the real vaccine to halt the murder .
Now they're back in the lab fine-tuning the virus.
God pass them.

I’m a Nigerian youth in my twenties. I secure my first job a month after service. Have change Job three times and currently I work at the comfort of my home. The population of Nigeria keep growing exponentially. People give birth without a clear plan.
Currently I’m enjoying being a Nigerian. Have been a law abiding citizen and I can boldly says have never involve in crime or any fraudulent activities.
I make my money legally. What help me is simple, I think outside the box, keep improving my self. Everyday I ask myself what can I contribute to Nigeria. What problem can I solve. Nigeria need a lot of problem solver. You don’t need a total enabling environment to thrive. Even with this current situation, a problem solver will thrive. People have problems and they are looking for solution. If everyone can start thinking of solution and stop complaining, Nigeria will be great.

It’s only in Nigeria I see people want you to fail all because you share different ideology.
The government need our support, if you feel they are doing something wrongly, instead of complaining provide a clear cut solution. In fact suggest solutions. Then we gonna have a community that’s ready to thrive.

That is the reason they embark on a large scale senseless policy initiatives. We need statistical and analytical database of cost of goods and factors affecting it as well as income and wages. From these database the government can analyse the impact of a certain policy on the citizens. Imagine a government that floats it's currency ( meaning they have no control over it or have handed over the control of the currency to market forces ) to that of a foreign developed country and hope things get better that way. Very soon Nigerians can't go to work or feed because their local currency is depreciating steadily against that of the foreign currency . What a country.

Floating Naira and removing Subsidy is not the main problem when it comes to Nigeria port and Custom. The main issue is that Vin's valuation crap. Most of the cars imported into that country are salvage cars and why are they deemed as salvage for the insurance company it is not worth repairing the car anymore. If a car is valued at $7000 and the car has an accident and the repair cost is $4500. With depreciation because of the accident, the car is now worth $4800. Add $4800 to the repair cost now you getting $9300 for a car that originally valued $7000 now you can see why it was marked as salvage. The car goes to the salvage auction maybe it gets sold for $2500, For the insurance company the write-off on the car is 7000 - 2500 = $4500 which they can claim on their taxes as a business cost. Now here comes the Nigeria customs with their Vin valuation based on the initial value of $7000 instead of the $2500 that the car was actually sold for at the auction. I have written and designed so many programs for various Insurance companies. I know the industry very well. Nigeria Custom needs to change how they do valuation and this will resolve this issue.
