TOTAL SHUTDOWN COME OCTOBER 3?

The present economic strangulation being faced by the populace cannot be overemphasized.

However, it's pertinent that the overall negative effect on the wobbling economy be thoroughly examined and dissected by all and sundry before any strike action is carried out.

For sure,it's bound to be counterproductive in the long run as whatever gains made by workers in terms of increase in salaries/wages would be consumed by the prevailing economic realities of unabating inflation.

It reminds one of the Udoji Awards of the 70s which triggered hyperinflation.

The solution, for me, is to see how to bring down the prices of goods and services through carefully thought-out methodologies/actions.

Primarily, the true value of the Naira must be brought back to a relatively noble status if we are to have a headway.

Our refineries, including the Dangote Refinery, must be brought on stream to save the Naira and provide more jobs.

For now, oil remains the mainstay of the economy; therefore all efforts must be put in to achieve maximum benefit from that sector.

Again, banditry, kidnapping, etc must also be reduced to the barest minimum if farmers can access their farms and make foodstuffs cheaper.

Shutting down the economy would amount to cutting one's nose to spite one's face.

Let reason prevail!

Consequences of corruption in the public sector

Corruption is not only evil because it unfairly discriminates against individual groups of the population. The main problem is in the economic context: If money for personal relationships or favors changes hands, then it is no longer available for necessary expenditures.

The example of schools, kindergartens or hospitals becomes particularly clear. Suppliers are usually public institutions such as state or city governments. If the money flows uncontrolled into other channels, the public sector has to suffer.

Closely considered, bribe money also remains in the economic cycle, but necessary expenditures can no longer be made with it. As an indirect consequence, economic output falls and inflation rises.

Just a nomenclature, I don't see this present crop of labour leaders strong enough to command a "total shutdown". Most of them are stooges and snitched on others for the political class.

In fact, Oshiomhole has successfully betrayed the labour movement in Nigeria. He is always there to "intervene" any time anyday.
