Kenmatt:

Forget about this your Diesel matter.

Five hundred naira reduction is not a small money in Cement business and if you're into building Projects.

Rarely, one goes to the Market to buy just one bag of cement.

The price will still be reduced by that five hundred.

If the ex factory price as you're emphasising here was increased by five hundred yesterday, today Cement price will add the same all over the Country.

I wish it reflects in the market but it might not.
Distributors hold the knife and the yam.
When diesel prices were going up. They complained bitterly about cost of diesel.
Now company has reacted by taking off 500 naira for ex factory price. Meaning they have extra N450k on a N900 bags truck to add to the diesel purchase..
But again, diesel has gone past 1k per liter in most markets. Inflation has taken away a big portion of the N500 naira.

This inflation is a monster but we often don't understand except it affects us directly as business men or builders.
So do not be surprised if you don't get reduction at all. Cos the distributor has paying higher for diesel. Now that the burden of that expense is reduced. He is likely not to let that go off.
And there is an artificial scarcity at the moment due to bad roads. So the goods are not in surplus which would have driven the prices down.
We have more demand chasing fewer supplies.

I know retailers in different states who have paid for cement for over a week or two but haven't been supplied in the south.
Same happening in the North too.

So the prices might Likely remain the same.

Bua did that just to mop up cash from distributors i bet you.
It is a better way to raise money thana bank loan with over 20% interest.

They do this when they have Projects.
Both Dangote abd and Bua.

Sangoamadioha1:

No i won't bet with you but i believe Bua would reduce to ₦4800. I get where you are coming from but pessimism is affecting your analysis.
I will come back to quote you a week from now.
You seem to forget that as we speak now. Bua price is still N5030 so I am wondering who will sell it to you at 4800 naira.
Ex factory price means without transportation.
Add transportation and your cost of purchasing will be N5000+ so you want a distributor to sell at loss?
When there is even some level of scarcity?

Dey play...
One week from now. I will be here to quote you again brother.

Hmmmmnn, even those who are close to the BUA factories and have the greatest opportunity to buy at new ex-factory price of #3,500 would cruise with the scarcity and sell at the current prevailing price of the product in the Market. Nigerians like taking advantage of themselves in things like this.

You are very correct. That is why when it was 4000 naira per bag. It still sold for 5600 naira like the direct delivery.
A 500 naira reduction won't change much. especially as direct delivery prices are same.

The poster is correct about the absurd reduction in Bua cement's ex-factory price, which is originally above #4000, approximately 4350 excluding transportation costs. The hidden reason behind this price drop is the significant decrease in Bua cement sales due to border closures. Bua cement used to export a large portion to countries like Niger, Burkina Faso, and other West and North African nations. However, with sanctions and border closures, their sales plummeted. To boost sales, they decided to lower the price, affecting areas near their factories in Sokoto and Anchi. Even if Dangote were to reduce his prices, it would likely only apply to certain locations, not all of them. In essence, as the poster suggests, there won't be a significant difference; we are being manipulated.
