My Horrible Experience At Computer Village by burp18: 1:19am On Oct 07, 2023
So i had to get a couple of things at computer village Ikeja I'd need for a job I'm doing. I went to the market and after getting the things that I needed, I received a call from my friend who's in need of a STARLINK device. Who would have guessed? Coincidentally, that had it at the store. I confirmed the price and sent the details to my friend. He had a bit of trouble making the payment so I collected the contact of one of the sales rep in the store and told them I'd give them a call.

Following day, I was on my way already out of Lagos, I was at the park when my friend called and said he was ready to initiate tge transaction. I told him I wasn't anywhere close to computer very but I have a contact that works there. Had a bit of trouble convincing him to go ahead and completing the transaction with them since he needed it the following day.

After much convincing and he finally agreed, he made the payment amd the said sales person got a dispatch rider to take it to the park.

Waited the following day for the item to arrive and we heard nothing. Then came the second, third, fourth, and even fifth day. Our patience was wearing out and we were already asking for a refund.
The item finally arrived on eve of the sixth day. It was already getting dark and it was too late to get it to the clients location for installation.

On unboxing the item. So many things didn't seem to add up.

The serial No /PN No on the carton was different from the device in the carton itself. How's this even possible? I began to ask. Tried to register for the for time and it kept on giving thesame error message.
An account was already assigned to this device. What in the world ? How's this even possible?

We reached out to the sellers and all they could tell us was to contact starlink? Like how? For a device we got for almost N400k. We decided to return it because there's just no sense wasting such a huge amount on refurbished useless worth of crap.

It turns out this fraudster of a said person and their colleague did not get this item from their store. The store is a pretty big store and we've bought items from them before. I recommended my friend get it from them because I was under the impression they were getting it from their store.

On returning the item. Just I had predicted they would. They started to give me stupid craps about how I must have started the registration half way and my account is the one tied to the device and stuff.

I got to understand something. Nigerians are mean. By mean I mean Nigerians are very mean people. I have travelled across about 34 of the 36 states in Nigeria and northerners are about the only place where you'd find people with a little bit of honesty.

Now, I could put contact and the pictures of the people involved in these. But it doesn't get any messier than it already is.

I'm just saying you can be a legitimate business person and still do good. If you have to lie your way or cheat and deceive unsuspecting clients to stay in business, then you're not going to stay in business for long.

One last thing I learned more about this is very few people deserve pity. The fraudster of a salesperson with whom I we initiated this transaction kept pleading and begging me not escalate the matter because in her words. If the boss finds out, they'd lose their job. When we finally took the matter the store owner. The person didn't even hesitate to throw me under the bus. Fraudster was just in a hurry to absolve themselves and make it seem I didn't even know what I was buying or how it works. Nigerians are devilish people.

There was not. Can you imagine? They were trying to refer me to the person from whom they picked the item from. The whole thing is funny because the store owner whom I rever and respect so much. I expected him to do something about it, but it turns out they're all in it together.

Don't you know that the sets of people that trade in Alaba, Ladipo, Computer Village etc are never to be trusted. They are rogues and bunch of criminals parading themselves as Businessmen. Truth, honesty and integrity are rare commodities in their enterprise.

To top everything off. It shows on starlink website that that there's a 20% price slash on this item and the it'll last till november. Shipping it doesn't cost much and it takes less than two weeks to arrive.
I just don't get the idea behind why people do the things that they do. If there 1000 people doing business in computer village, over 900 are criminals.

this is exactly my grouse with them. They're refusing to admit they sold me garbage. I'm trying to under how you buy a product and you find there are completely different serial No's on the indoor unit, outdoor unit, and the carton itself. When the so called supplier came he claimed the serial numbers were all supposed to be different. I started to wonder when a carton became an appliance to have it's own separate serial No different from item inside the carton. In all of these... I'd say my only disappointment is in the store owner. This is someone with who I've been doing business. I've recommended a lot of people to him many of which he doesn't even know.

Exactly. And no one's doing anything about it. And when it deteriorates further and the government finally decides to intervene and flush out these bad people, they start playing the pity card and making it appear as though the govt is taking away their source of livelihood without providing an alternative. I just don't get how long this is supposed to continue. Over 60% of the items sold at computer village are either fake, used, refurbished or with defects.

So sorry about your ordeal, I recently bought a new freezer from Alaba Intl market, I went to get something else, came back and found the freezer opened with the box, I was like did you open it? He's excuse was that he needed to confirm but I was like why not confirm when you were stocking your store, atleast do the testing in my presence, I told the seller he'll have to change the unit because I'm not taking this one.

He brought another one, asked permission to test it, I brought it home, found out the handle screw isn't there, another wahala as he has kept on posting my jnr bro I'm sending to pick up. Something I bought this Wednesday.

The reason you are educated is so that fools like these don't take advantage of you.

Most of these criminals don't understand the consequences of the nonsense they do. If you take these fools up legally, they will start begging and crying.

If you want to get proper redress, report to this agency below. As part of their Investigation, they will come to the shop with State government officials and armed security agents. Lagos no get time for nonsense.

You could have picked one or two police from computer village. Give them like 5k, they will threaten those people and makes resolution faster. Without that, they will only be dribbling you, come today, come tomorrow. The truth is that they don't always like to involve in police case, they would have provided the person that acted it out or force the owner to produce him which would have mounted pressure on them. Second option that may be delayed a bit is to involve Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency ( LASCOPA). You must always be at alert whenever you want to buy good product out of computer village. Developers have turned that place to Den of Frauds. Don't always fall for " Nah Original"

The error came from you bro. Dishonesty is synonymous with most Nigerians.

You shouldn't have convinced your friend to transfer such amount to cunning sellers when you knew you wouldn't be physically present to inspect and confirm the originality of the product.

I wouldn't tell you to involve the police cos they'll just bribe them, and nothing would come out of the matter. Walk into ikeja cantonment. It's not far from there. Get like 2 soldiers. Settle them and explain things to them. The soldiers would follow you to their shop and say the product belongs to them and if they don't want any trouble, they should refund back your money.

Believe me, you'll receive your credit alert that moment

Are you new in Lagos?

Why would you agree to shell out 400K for an item you did not even inspect physically...in a Nigerian open market for that matter? angry

When buying an item of high value in an open market in Nigeria you must never transfer cash until you have satisfied yourself that the item before you meets all your requirements for quality!

Police ke? They called l bluff when I threatened to involve the police. They have their own police outpost in computer village. Na them them. They're all a bunch of criminals both the police and the sellers. This country is a fraud that should be burned to the ground with everything that's in it.

Computer Village is a hub of fraudsters. The number of honest people there is really low. As a rule, I only buy my items from Slot, Oraimo, or from businesses that have a working website or Instagram page with a lot of followers. This doesn't mean they're honest but it goes a long way in showing they've invested in their image and will be wary of their reputation getting soiled.

As for your friend, why didn't he buy Starlink from the manufacturers. They will ship it down here. I am skeptical of any Starlink being sold in Computer Village or anywhere else. I'm even surprised it's the real thing. I was expecting it to be some fake replica with a sim card slot. grin
