Fallacious! Both Dangote & Ibeto were allowed to import a percentage to augment insufficient local supplies otherwise prices of few locally produced would skyrocket. That's commonsensical, RIGHT?

IBETO later got forex from CBN to boost local production both in Enugu & PHC with other value-added (engineering, design, etc) BUT Dangote under Buhari stopped Ibeto, and continued giving forex to Dangote!

Don't be mischievous. Dangote is not pro-masses. He's so selfish & an economic saboteur!

If BAT has the balls & restores IBETO CEMENT, watch out & see how he will crash cement prices.

Dangote didn't stop ibeto , the CBN instituted a policy to grow local production.

Anyone who is honest knows Dangote has worked very hard increase their local production and don't import cement to rebag anymore they've moved away from that practice something even the OP noted, it's cheaper to quarry limestone in Nigeria than in other places, Dangote has also increased his production capacity in West and Central Africa digesting away from Nigeria but ibeto wants to keep importing and rebaging the cement using FX.

Some of their foreign counterparts have more than 10 times their production capacity, yet make far less profit. This is an indicator that Cement is overpriced in this part of the world. Dangote, BUA and Lafarge Africa are clearly ripping us off.

We are in trouble in this country, and we don't have a responsible government to check these criminals.
You can't blame a businessman who isn't tightly regulated. It's a clear leadership failure & rot in the system. All these men fund every politicians and have them as close friends. This is a smart move to always have their business interest secured. In a sane country, you shouldn't be making that high profit margin especially on an essential product that can cause housing deficit. Well, since there isn't any patriotic "political leaders" the people will continue to bear the burnt.

This calls for immediate diligent investigation for likelihood of national economic sabotage and unfair trade practices against Nigerians by these three companies.

This is utterly shameful and heads must roll in any agency found culpable. For years, there has been strident calls for investigation of these companies cement companies and these calls have been ignored but this report is by far the most compelling to investigate cement pricing in Nigeria. Haba!

Only Lafarge come close to having a significant amount of its shares owned by Nigerians while the 2 cement companies owned by Nigerians are literally one-man business like a 2-man cartel using cement price to hold down the progress of this nation.
More than 90% of the outstanding shares of Dangote cement is owned by Alhaji Aliko Dangote, GCON while about 95% of the outstanding shares of BUA cement is owned by Alhaji Rabiu. So the unparalleled world record profit held by these two companies end in the pocket of these two individuals shocked

And you guys will blame the government for no foreign investment into the country, you don't know something like that can blacklist Nigeria from foreign investment ? even China wouldn't dare to try something like that, witch hunting because companies are making profits.

Nigeria is practicing free markets and not an autocratic country, the government can't set the price of goods in a free market and democracy, if the FG try that Nigeria won't see any foreign investment.

That guy is an idiot!

Which local production was ibeto doing in Enugu? Do you have limestone in any part of Ibo land? Ibo land has no natural resources.

So it was Buhari that stopped ibeto not Obasanjo again as being peddled by your fellow ibos? Ibos and envy!

Tinubu will not restore any ibeto. He should go and set a factory and compete.

The FX was sold to Dangote at CBN rate as was the FG multiple window policy as part of the FG's 20-25% investment in his refinery. And Dangote wasn't the only beneficiary though the particular release made him one of its highest.

The FG failed to manage the FX and that threatened the refinery project.

I respect Dangote because unlike the idiots who fail to invest Dangote takes very serious risks in investing in Nigeria.

And he would have bought Arsenal if the current owner was given to the possibility of a sale. Inside trading because you think the politicians don't dream of the possibility of running billion dollars corporations.

Dangote make money tye difficult way that many Nigerians don't want to, while his friends were busy getting fat off oil subsidy money he kept his eye on his cement business and started planning a mega refinery that would ultimately render their business obsolete.

So both of you are actually Communists

You both think that companies should not be allowed to make a profit.

Right, comrades?

I never thought I would see the day a tinubu and obi supporter, a one Nigerian and a Biafran would agree.

Well, sane economists always know it is right for companies to make a profit. They need to pay salaries, pay for maintenance, pay for upgrades and so forth.

But you two want cement to sell at 50 naira a bag. Shebi you go pay the salaries of the workers then?

Anyway, Communists want nothing more grin
this is the reason why Nigeria will never move forward. The people are voicing out against exploitation by corporate industry, the others are naming them communists. You certainly don't even understand what communism means.

So many Nigerians are just ignorant try that and watch foreign investment desert Nigeria and hurt Nigeria economy badly even China wouldn't try that easily.
. Government can place a ceiling on prices, but can't fix a definite price, taking into consideration relative production costs.
Why can't MTN, AIRTEL ETC HIKE PRICES ANYHOW WITHOUT INVOLVING NCC?
That's government regulatory and monitoring mechanism.
No sane government allows it's economic and commercial activities to be on a free roller coaster.
When Dangote is involved, government do anything to please him because the guys in government are part of his racket.

Why should Dangote busy himself publicly criticising government, of what benefit is that to him, he has problems and if he needs to he can reach out to the President, ministers or corporate friends to see how that can be relieved doesn't mean everybody is dancing to his tune.

He is however smart because he had built his empire so big that it's is become the standard in Nigeria , president would fall over themselves to see to it that it doesn't fall.

Why would a smart business man antagonize the FG please do tell me why, I don't hear innoson complaining maybe it's because he has been receiving record orders since 2015.

Most Nigerians love politics of identity and association.

To them, Dangote even though established as a shrewd businessman, still enjoys the support of Nigerians because they use him for a bragging right--"Africa's wealthiest man is a Nigerian". It is akin to those mofos who form Team Messi vs Team CR7 even though both players have no direct impact in their lives.

Comrade, I am actually arguing for your right to make a profit in your business...not for Dangote to exploit you.

If Government sets prices for Dangote and company to help the poor breathe, they won't make enough profit for running costs and salaries and even upgrades, and then they would close down.

Then we would have to import, and by extension lose more forex that way, and start inviting infation and debt to come join.

And as such governments dey do for big men, they will do for small men like you.

I read their post again and again. Nobody said they should not make profit but what they make as profit is too much. They need to stop adding salt to our injuries. The indirect extortion needs to stop.

Okay o. But when government finishes with Dangote and company, they will come for your business next.

(No, not a threat).

Once upon a time one third of the world was run by Communists. Communists got popular with the people because they said the big men were making too much profit. Na so people cheer them. Then after they finished with the big men, they came and said the hawker, corner shop owner, barber, trader at mkrket, etc was making too much profit....

You know where that led...

Today's communist governments are now going capitalist . The only way you can grow an economy is to allow the companies make a lot of profit. Maybe you take some in taxes as government,

But what you were advocating was tried in the past, and it ended in tears and failure and in some instances anarchy. Former communist countries, esp between the years 1990-2000.

Why haven't you accused Lafarge for not dropping their own prices as well.. why didn't you accused BUA of not dropping their prices since..

Are you aware BUA announced their price cut immediately they completed 2 new cement lines in their sokoto and Edo plants?

.
You claim 90% of the materials are Nigeria.. please does it end there.. the plant itself are the materials used in building them gotten from Nigeria..
can you name one single components that is regularly used to maintain those industries that you can source locally in Nigeria..or aren't you aware cost of maintenance of those plants is the also part of cost of production?

BUA did something great..
But they did that so that they can gain little attention once they begin rolling out an extra 6 million MTA of cement from their new plants..

Once they gain that extra market.. everything will balance..

Even the price cut might only see Edo and Sokoto residence benefiting more
