Hi NLders, my younger brother was admitted to Turku University of Applied Sciences in Finland on 4th, to study english-taught Bachelor of Eng in ICT. He was mandated to pay €5750 tuition before the 18th of this month. Funds are available for other bills, like travel and living expenses.
The problem, however, is the mandatory tuition of €5750 fund. We've rallied round, but economy's crazy and there's almost nowhere to turn anymore.

Please do you people know any agency that can fund this? It's about 4.8 million naira. The deal will be they getting reimbursed, with interest, within 1 year.

This is because his plan is to start working immediately after receiving resident permit which will take less than 3 months after getting there. In fact, he's to resume in January, and application for resident permit can follow payment immediately to enable him receive it earlier. He would refund once he starts working.

Any other solutional idea, suggestion is welcome, anyone. Please, I don't want him to lose this opportunity, he's one hell of a hard-working guy, academically or physically. He scored 1560 in SAT last Dec., at the third attempt, before College Board canceled it and he's done countless works just to stay afloat.

@tensazangetsu20 @Pansophist @Gerrard59, I'm tagging you guys because you're known for your vast traveling knowledge. Anyone with idea too can help.

Damn and op I think you should confirm that 5750 is for one semester. After around 5 months or so he has to pay another one again. The fees is around 11500 euro annually. I feel with his high SAT score he won't have issues getting a full ride in the US

It's for a semester. Read the admission letter. When I was looking for schools in Finland then the least fees I saw were 10000 euros annually and you have to pay two times for a masters degree so total of 20000 euros it's the same for undergraduate.

He can get scholarship but scholarship is based on him knowing finnish. He should have started learning the language since

https://www.tuas.fi/en/study-tuas/admissions/tuition-fees/

In the future, its going to be very hard leaving Nigeria without knowing another foreign language as the english speaking countries are expensive and competitive

I just learned about this scholarship for finnish language proficiency now, I used to be familiar with the early bird discount reduction
You make good findings

Your case is not the first. Also, your annual tuition is 11500 euros, that's roughly 12M naira and you are required to pay half. Working as a student won't give you much to fund your fees, and pay back.

It also takes time to find a job, especially in Turku. You are also allowed to work 25 hours a week, not full-time. I mean, you should have funds down already before pursuing admission, that's the right way to go about it.

And for sure, you would prioritize your personal financial obligations over someone who lends you, especially when the person can't see you to collect it back if you defaulted. This is very dangerous, and I do not see how anyone will borrow a stranger such, but miracles do happen sha. I wish you luck.

Just look for a cheaper country and go study there, or target the schools that still do free tuition. Be realistic. It will be hard for someone to borrow you such an amount, except your family.

Why did the College Board cancel the score?

He should re-write the SAT and apply to R2 universities in the US. Aim at full funding. The US is the only country I can recommend for brilliant students who no get money or plenty money.
