There are fears in Akure, the Ondo state capital over the whereabouts of the embattled deputy governor of the state, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

Aiyedatiwa who is facing threats of impeachment from the Ondo state House of Assembly is said to have fled the state since the return of the state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu who returned from Germany over a month ago.

Confirming the development, Dr. Doyin Odebowale, the Special Assistant to Governor Akeredolu on Special Duties and Strategy said the deputy governor has been seen in Akure for weeks, yet he is not on official duties outside the state.

Speaking as a guest on Channels Television programme ‘Politics Today’ which was monitored by QUEST TIMES, Odebowale said those demanding for the whereabouts of Governor Akeredolu should also be asking questions on the disappearance of the deputy governor.

“Why are they not asking for the whereabouts of the deputy governor?. He has not been in Akure for weeks and he is not on medical leave. He has not been sent out of Akure on assignment. Forget about the process of impeachment and what have you. He is still the deputy governor and he has not been to that office. Why are they not asking for the whereabout of the deputy?”.

The development is causing anxiety in the state as some supporters of Aiyedatiwa are afraid he may have fled the state for his life as Akeredolu’s loyalists are determined to kick him out over alleged disloyalty.

Speaking with our correspondent, one of the media aides of Aiyedatiwa who was sacked by Governor Akeredolu last month said “He is fine. He is still functioning in his capacity as the duty elected deputy governor”.

He however refused to disclose his whereabouts or answer question on the last time he sighted him in Akure.

Our correspondent also contacted Aiyedatiwa’s lawyer, Ebun Olu-Adegboruwa (SAN) on the whereabouts of his client. Phone calls to his line was not answered while a text message sent to him has not been replied.

Even though Aketi tried in the early days of his administration, this second term has largely been a huge joke. It's unfortunate that he fell sick for a prolonged period, but his wife turned the govt house into a circus and a fencing ring, chasing after imaginary enemies. His deputy too started turning on his own and when Aketi returned, he still couldn't pilot the helms of affairs of the state well. I doubt if he has attracted any FDI into the state since the beginning of the year.
Even though he was very influencial in the emergence of PBAT as president as he garned the people's support and all, presidential influence will not be able to save him this time to install an annointed candidate. The people of Ondo state are waiting for him (APC) at the polls
