In the 19 months of Professor Charles Soludo's governance of Anambra State, the standards of governance have sunk to new lows. Despite the state's potential for sustainable economic development, the APGA-led "regime" under Soludo seems to be endorsing poverty and imposing burdensome taxes, among other sufferings for the people in the state.

As the Governor approaches his two-year mark in office, it's evident that the only notable accomplishments of his administration would be the recruitment of 50,000 touts from various parts of the country to enforce high and illegal tax collection. Apart from these dubious taxation practices, there appears to be no substantial economic plan to make Anambra State more economically viable.

The Budgit report, which the current regime is applauding, exposes Charles Soludo as a pseudo-economics professor with little knowledge of developing a sustainable economic model for the state beyond imposing excessive and illegal taxes.

In contrast to states like Lagos, Ogun, Kaduna, and Rivers, which achieve fiscal performance and viability through foreign direct investments, partnerships with multinational corporations, and the development of sustainable infrastructure to encourage local production and exports, rather than replicate such a model, Professor Soludo is burdening tricycle operators, motorists, petty traders, and small and medium-sized enterprises with excessive and multiple taxes.

Taxes are typically levied on income, goods and services, and other economic activities. However, in Anambra State, Soludo targets the poorest individuals and those without any income. For example, tricycle riders are forced to pay a weekly mandatory fee of 3,000 naira, while bus and truck drivers pay 7,000 and 12,000 naira, respectively, even when they haven't been on the road for a month and have no evidence of income. These taxes are paid despite the lack of basic amenities. After paying high taxes to the state, individuals are left to provide their own amenities.

Despite the state's economic challenges and burdensome taxes, it's distressing that the Governor still collects a whopping Two Billion Naira Monthly as security votes from the revenue generated off poor and less privileged petty traders, tricycle and bus drivers.

Soludo, in his almost two years of being in office, has offered Anambra state nothing tangible compared to his promises of Dubai, Taiwan, Hong-Kong, and New York.

Rather than collaborate with "Anambra big boys" to attract investments home and build a sustainable economy, Soludo is instead scaring everyone away from the state with hostility, reckless policies, and a lack of transparency.

In a recent report, Anambra and four other states topped the fiscal performance index A. This information was provided by Budgit.org. However, as evidenced by the Budgit fiscal performance survey for 2023, the Charles Soludo-led regime is needlessly celebrating the pain and poverty of Anambra inhabitants without demonstrating the tangible development impacts of the state's excessive revenue drive.

Here you are fighting back, we truly understand your plight as a jobless Anambrarian at the moment.

Anambra was worse off in the past administration that insecurity was destabilizing the state.

It is just a matter of time before Allen Onyeama will throw his hat into the ring, but give or take, Governor Soludo will complete his 8 years.

If you dont want to pay your taxes you better relocate to another state. It cost money to build infrastructures.
