I wish to report the ongoing fraud about IBEDC Meter Upgrading Fraud.

I purchased a meter token online on 22nd September, 2023 which failed to load on my meter with an error code “CrError”. Thinking the challenge has to do with the online platform, I went to the IBEDC Office in Lagere, Ile-Ife on 14th October, 2023 to purchase another token which also failed to load and with the same error code “CrError”. So far, I have purchased a total of N3,000 tokens without being unable to load them.

I returned to IBEDC Office to raise a complaint on the matter and was told to do a KCT upgrade and I was issued two KCT codes to load on my meter. After loading the KCTs codes, I tried loading my tokens but they failed again with an error code “Old”. Whatever that means!

I went back to IBEDC office in Lagere, Ile-Ife to the Customer Care Unit to complain about the new challenge and to my surprise they had no solution to the problem. I was told that I would need to migrate from Meter to Direct connection as a condition of addressing my complaint. This is fraud. Why will IBEDC start a meter upgrade project that is not working and now forcing customers to abandon their meter for direct connection. I repeat IBEDC is a fraudulent organisation.

Now what happens to my N3,000 spent in purchasing the tokend? This is criminal. I call on National Assembly and the Nigerian Electricity Regulation Commission (NERC) to save us from NEPA/IBEDC exploitations.

Do not waste your time
There is a national meter upgrade going on so that we can pay more
But some meters are failing,
You will be directed to msto office for another line of code...you will waste your days trying to apply the code ( besides ktc can be gotten online)

They have too much meter awaiting that upgrade that will waste your time
Because I use electricity alot
I had spent a lot ,just waiting for them to fix their shit

I disconnected their meter and connected directly myself , I had told them I will do that if they can't fix their shit,
Been using it for about two months now...when they come around,
We shall sort it out

There's actually a set of IBEDC prepaid meters that stop taking token after upgrade; I have the same issue and it's really annoying! If your meter number starts with 624 and certain numbers, you are on your own. They have not found a solution to the problem...super annoying. I really wish I had the will and time to take them up on it

You've been running on generator since the failed upgrade attempt?

Not really. After the first failed attempt, they gave me a kind of trial code that allowed me to input my token successfully with the promise that they will fix it before it's exhausted. I'm still using it in the hope that they'll fix it as promised. In the meantime, I switch to solar to conserve it

I would advise you visit them again before you exhaust the current unit. If It's not yet fixed and they can generate another trial code, you should load units that would last 3 to 6 months.

That's enough time for them to troubleshoot and fix the issue permanently. You know Nigerian companies and slow issues resolution time are 5 & 6.

My advice to anyone having meter issue.phed has deferent department.when you visit any of their office, look for any meter installer for any assistance in respect to meter.those once at customer care may not really help,as they have little or no knowledge about meter.

Don't know the deadline though,but if u have not done urs,go ask for KTC,is a 20,40,100 digit number depends on ur meter number.

What is the role of Nigerian Electricity Regulation Commission NERC in all this mess. What are regulating? Or has IBEDC settled them?

Which kind work dem dey do sef...so if the unit gets exhausted and they can't resolve it, they would leave you in the dark....all these kind things no suppose dey happen

Unfortunately, this is Nigeria where there are weak institutions
They still make you pay a certain amount for "loss of revenue" to connect you directly as a result of error on their part! I asked them who is losing revenue here; me or ibedc? Very crazy people. I'll get enough for 6 months next time I'm getting a token through their "trial code"
