What Sage Awolowo Said About Lagos by abdeefggh: 7:30pm On Oct 23, 2023 |
This is the comment and speech of all Awolowo about Lagos that threatened the British when there were plans by the British in connivance with Zik to carve out Lagos permanently from Yorubaland. He said and I quote "Lagos will have to be separated from the dead bodies of Yoruba patriots in the Action group" if the British do not stop their agenda to de-Yorubanize Lagos. 5 Likes 4 Shares

Yourbaslayer: Nah.. you were fought by Nigerians for attempting to break away with minority ethnic groups without their consent and for trying to steal the oil discovered in the Niger Delta region. Your own forefathers on the other hand rejected secession clause in the early years of Nigeria and fought all those they felt didn't want unity of Nigeria. They played second fiddle to the Fulani North just to keep the status quo. 15 Likes 3 Shares |

No be today. They would have make significant progress if their leaders focus and channel their energy on developing their land instead of looking for lands to steal. More than 60 years now, they are still roaming about aimlessly around Nigeria without anything to show for. Even smaller ethnic groups in Niger delta are overtaking them politically now. 2 Likes |

No ethnic group in Nigeria has the capability to take an inch from SW but they on the on other hand is still abit vulnerable 2 Likes |

abdeefggh:Some people actually thought Lagos started in 1960 not knowing that even when Lagos had established its prime place of strategic importance, not even a single member of their tribe and some Nigerian tribes had ever stepped foot in Lagos. Smh. Below is the Population Statistics Of Lagos British Colony In 1891 The population of Lagos Colony was analysed into 'Yoruba' and 'Non-Yoruba' tribes: 1. Eko tribe had fallen from 57% in 1872 to 23.6% 20 years later. 2. Popo or Egun tribe was 15.85%, 3. Other Yoruba groups Oyo - 11.6% Ijebu - 11.01% Awori - 9.26% Egba - 6.05% Ijesha - 4.32% Egbado - 3.63% Ekiti/Efon people - 1.76% 4. Non-Yoruba groups Nupe/Tapa - 1.86% Hausa - 1.86% The Kru - 1.37%. The strength of the Eko tribe was concentrated in Wards A, B, C and D of Lagos Town and Harbour, and the Central District of Ebute Metta/Yaba. The Aworis were concentrated in the Central District and the Popo's or Egun in the Western District. FreeStuffsNG: So, as at 1891 no single igboman in Lagos. And they're claiming that they are the ones who developed Lagos. The same Lagos that already had schools, post office, hospitals, electricity, telephone, seaport, international markets/business districts, Cathedrals, halls, tarred roads etc as early as 1860s. Those noise making late comers are so annoying 😒 4 Likes 1 Share |

Lagos was the former federal capital from 1900- 1991. During this period Nigeria spent billions of dollars of oil boom on Lagos as the federal capital not for any particular tribe but for the whole Nigeria. A lot of people were relocated to Lagos by compulsion back then because whether you were a civil servant or banker then, head quarters in whole Nigeria was in Lagos , from transfers to all FG board and parastatals meetings happened in Lagos as capital. Lagos represents the beauty of one Nigeria where anybody from any tribe can go, be fruitful and multiply…Whether you come from Rivers or Benue or Anambra or Kaduna etc Lagos belongs to all Nigerians because we are one Nigeria |
