I stand with the girls. In a typical Nigerian setting, money that is lent is rarely paid back because the debtor is a family member who will argue that the money was used for the family's benefit. It is why, as children, when given gifts by visitors, parents take them so the benefit goes round in the family.

That man will not pay her the money no matter what. He might even get the money and abscond. Additionally, and most importantly, it is a stoopid thing to borrow money for the purpose of marriage. A marriage is not a financial instrument that will generate profits. So, why take a loan? As a man, it is even more foolish to take a loan to marry. It is the man, not the woman, who should argue against such an arrangement.
