Despite all the hype dat heralded the launch of google + and the staggering initial numbers that signed up for this service, it doesnt seem this social network is going anywhere fast.
It doesnt even seem to me to stand the slightest chance against facebook not necessarily because facebook is better but because it has wormed its way into the hearts of people just like google has in search (ask microsoft or ask.com)
Lets just keep our fingers crossed and see what happens to the 4 friends i got in circles on +

Came at the wrong time and failed to show users any clear reason as to why its better than existing social platforms. So!

Their failure to have it equipped with an API from the ground up is coming back to really bite them in the asssss!
That, coupled with Facebook's deathpunch - the introduction of the new Facebook Timeline profiles which will replace the original "facebook walls". This new profile gives new features Google+ just cannot pull out, and this is really making it difficult to gain new 'converts'.
The profile is set to be out later next month.

There, however, is a slight trick you can pull, which would enable you to start using the Timeline's beta mode right now, even before its launch date.

Here's the link:

Enjoy! cool

Google+ need rebranding. Where's madam dora when you need her?
Seriously though, too many social medial networks around and it'll take serious effort for any newcomer -even for a titan like google-to convince people to move over to their's. The stress of migrating friends thru different networks is too much for lazy drones.
What google needs to do is to automatically open a G+ id for you anytime you use their search engine. Aside that it's going to take a while before they can compete with Fb and Twitter

What a fucking pointless thread.

They don't stand a chance yet, they need to be more innovative. And
facebook is just copying all the good things they have to offer like the
circle (now lists on facebook) and follow (now subscribe on facebook).

and the idea of "invitations only" start they had didn't allow them to
exploit the hype fully.

They will get there.I believe so. undecided
Re: Is Google + A Failure? by pheesayor(m): 3:29pm On Oct 26, 2011
Facebook simply imitated google's ideas for google plus, and like someone said earlier, migrating friends is a huge task. Why move to google plus when I have all the features on facebook?
Google+ will not succeed

FYI Lists was first used by Twitter before Facebook copied

Poor branding.

The name and site look so unattractive.

Mark Zuckerberg is already a user. But I know that he is not seeing it as a threat to his Facebook.

They need to consult me. But I will not contact them first.
Re: Is Google + A Failure? by nolongTing: 4:29pm On Oct 26, 2011
Its Googles second attempt to disrupt the mighty facebook which itself is trying to break into the smartphone business. But its way too early to hail it as a success or failure. one thing for sure is that the growing popularity of Android will give them lots of leverage.

Personally i don't understand the hype about Facebook and twitter talkless of Google+.I don't use any of those services because as a businessman,i always either in a meeting , on the road or working at my desk.

When i get home ,i switch on my HTPC connected to my ADSL line and watch movies ,cartoon ,series e.t.c Otherwise i play my xbox 360 till i am tired or download movies online. For me that is more fun than chatting with friends on facebook.Other days when i am feeling kinky ,i get my full dose of black P.O.R, N on my laptop.I also spend a lot of time on tech and gaming blogs.

Contrary to what you may think I am not old school ,i own every gadget you can imagine from wifi ready smart 3D LED Tvs , Pcs ,HTPCs,Media players,HD Digicams, smart phones, tablets and game consoles. I just never liked social media networking or maybe i am just not a "friendly" person.I am more of a family man, my wife and kids are my best friends. When i am not at work ,i am around my family and i enjoy their company always.

Do you need a social network you can get quality response to your post? Google+ is the place. Forget about Google+ not doing this not doing that. Google+ is a brand in the Google Family, not necessarily out to challenge facebook on the take in the market share.
With the gradual release of the full Google+ APIs, users has no better place to stay than Google+. Think of a network that gives you the ability to stream your Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn directly to your Google+ stream at the same time. People that are already using Google+ can attest to the superb platform it has over facebook.
Remember, you don't throw the baby with the bath water. Facebook has been here for long. Give Google+ the chance it needs to prove itself in the social network circle.
It is the same way some of you are speaking here concerning Glo in Nigeria. You people see MTN as a leader that can never be catch. You always fails to allow young brands to compete before labelling them failures. Give Google+ a break!

lets give them some time before passing judgement.
Re: Is Google + A Failure? by Zaynee63: 8:21pm On Oct 26, 2011
Who is passing judgement here that google+ is a failure

It is a failure to only Nigerians here at home (and Africans I guess).

All my peeps in the offshore naija have relocated their online social networkings to Google+- It was only a matter of course for them to migrate cuz google was not a mere search engine or mail provider to them,
Re: Is Google + A Failure? by Oba234: 8:41pm On Oct 26, 2011
well Google has to find their Niche. What is it about them that makes them so special that Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin can't give me? Once they answer that question, they will find more success. I have Facebook for keeping in touch with friends, Twitter allows me to be more blunt and free spirited and Linkedin allow me to keep in touch with job professionals and follow companies that I am interested in. They just need to find their voice. I do have a google plus, but I don't do anything on it.

It's not a failure, but as someone living in the United States who is heavily involved in the different social networks, none of my friends are going to google plus. I don't know anyone moving to google plus, but I wouldn't say its a failure. More of a work in progress that could go in either direction.

Re: Is Google + A Failure? by passyjango(m): 10:33pm On Oct 26, 2011
Google+ is a huge success. It now has over 40 million users in less than 6 months. Yes it is still small compared to Facebook, but Facebook did not get 40 million users in its first year. Google+ is an extension of Google. It is like Google 2.0. The bigger picture is to integrate all Google services into one big network called Google+.

If you are using any Google service today (GMail, Adsense, Webmaster, Adwords, Baraza, Blogger, the almighty Android, etc), chances are that you could be using Google+ soon. Our problem is poor analytical skills. If you can grow something from zero to 40 million in less than six months, you are certainly not a failure and Google has not even started to leverage all its channels to promote Google+. Just because you and your friends are not on Google+ does not make it a failure.

Google+ may never overtake Facebook, but that is not the idea. It is about future-proofing Google's properties and ensuring that Google remains in the cutting-edge of the web. Google+ has the potential to achieve these goals. As an entrepreneur what matters is to achieve your goals. You do not necessarily need to be number one, you only need to be close enough, so as to take advantage of any mistakes or slipups by the number one.
