Introduction:

Embarking on this remarkable journey within the maritime industry has been characterized by immense joy, profound happiness, and continual growth. When I assert that the maritime sector is my abode, it is an affirmation rooted in over three decades of unwavering dedication to the realm of maritime and transportation management. I am Bashir Jamoh, the Director General of the "Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency" (NIMASA), and my enduring commitment to the maritime and transportation sphere spans more than 32 years. NIMASA, a government agency tasked with regulating and overseeing maritime activities in Nigeria, plays a pivotal role in safeguarding the integrity and security of Nigerian waters, advancing the development of the maritime sector, and implementing policies that catalyze the growth of the Blue Economy in our nation. Today, I have the privilege of unveiling the fascinating concept of the "Blue Economy."

The Blue Economy:

The Blue Economy can be likened to a colossal treasure trove concealed beneath the depths of the sea. Envision the ocean as an enchanting realm brimming with enigmatic secrets awaiting discovery. The Blue Economy is, in essence, the endeavor to unveil and harness these secrets for the betterment of Nigeria.

Advantages of the Blue Economy:

Abundant Marine Resources:
Nigeria is blessed with an expansive and magnificent maritime domain. The Blue Economy empowers us to harvest an abundance of fish from these waters. Fish, not only a delectable source of nourishment, can also be traded, thereby enhancing our country's economic prosperity. Consequently, this translates to an increased supply of fish for beloved culinary dishes.

Economic Opportunities for All: The Blue Economy serves as an incubator for a plethora of employment opportunities. Analogous to the role of my dedicated team at NIMASA, numerous vocations are intricately linked to the sea. Contemplate a scenario where individuals take on roles as valiant fishermen procuring fish, scuba divers venturing into the underwater expanse, or guides navigating substantial vessels through the oceans. These employment avenues fortify our nation and ensure that families have access to sustenance and the financial means to meet their essential needs.

Preservation of Marine Ecosystems: My team at NIMASA operates as the guardians of the sea. Our tireless efforts are directed towards preserving the cleanliness and security of the ocean. We institute regulations and exercise vigilant oversight over maritime activities, preventing accidents and mitigating adverse incidents such as pollution. In so doing, we pave the way for the continued expansion of the Blue Economy and uphold the ocean as a thriving and pristine habitat for all the marine life that calls it home.

NIMASA's Role:

NIMASA, an acronym for the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, acts as the vigilant steward of the sea. Within our purview lies the pivotal responsibility of ensuring the soundness of all maritime activities. We set forth essential standards and guidelines to guarantee the safety and responsibility of all sea-bound ventures. This approach ensures that the Blue Economy can persistently flourish, and Nigeria can further reap the benefits of its resplendent maritime heritage.

Conclusion:

In the capacity of guardians of the sea, the Blue Economy stands as a magnificent treasury for Nigeria, bequeathing to us not only an abundant supply of delectable fish but also the creation of millions of employment opportunities, and the perpetual preservation of our sea's immaculateness and safety. As a staunch advocate for the welfare of our maritime domain, I, alongside my dedicated team, work tirelessly to enhance our nation's prosperity. Today, you have been acquainted with the marvels of the Blue Economy, and I encourage you to share this enlightening knowledge with your friends and family. Let us unite in celebrating the splendors of the Blue Economy and its pivotal role in Nigeria's progress.

we have to keep our eyes open on this blue economy, because it could be a way for Fulanis to control our water ways through the back door. lets stay vigilant

This has nothing to do with the Fulanis. If you do your research carefully you would understand that the DG is doing a good job. Moreover, the Minister of the Blue Economy is not Hausa.

Apart from Fishing and transportation on the Nigerian waterways, Efforts should be made to build facilities and structures that will attract and encourage tourism along the waterfronts.

Do you know what the blue economy is? It is an economic system or sector that seeks to conserve marine and freshwater environments while using them in a sustainable way to develop economic growth and produce resources such as energy and food.
