10th convocation: 20-year-old emerges overall best student at Baze University

At the 10th Convocation Ceremony of Baze University, 20-year-old Morenikeji Adebanjo, hailing from Ogun State, emerged as the overall best student.

The ceremony, held on Saturday in Abuja, showcased Adebanjo's exceptional achievement, attributing her success to the collective efforts of her lecturers, family, and the institution.

Adebanjo, a Law graduate, claimed the top position with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.81 on a scale of 4.0, surpassing 388 undergraduate candidates.

Additionally, Oseloka Zikora, a Mass Communication student, secured the overall best spot in the Master's program with a perfect 5.0 CGPA on a scale of 5.0, outshining 225 candidates.

Expressing her gratitude, Adebanjo pledged to be a valuable member of society through mentorship, emphasizing that it was the only way to give back to the school and the community at large.

She remarked, "A lot inspires me—first is God, second my family, and this achievement is not an individual feat but a collective accomplishment through Baze University. My lecturers have been of great help to me, sometimes going to meet them for extra explanation, and taking the time to really understand, and I appreciate their efforts. It was a collective effort."

Adebanjo articulated her intention to contribute to society by providing advice to undergraduates on how to succeed and utilizing law as an instrument of change.

The convocation also aimed to honor two notable Nigerians posthumously—Justice Mohammed Bello with an Honorary Doctor of Letters and Hajiya Maryam Babangida with an Honorary Doctor of Science.

In her address, Prof. Kathleen Okafor, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the institution, highlighted a significant milestone, with the university expanding academic programs from 72 in 2022 to 102. This encompassed 43 undergraduate courses, 41 post-graduate programs (PGD and MSc), and 18 PhD programs.

Prof. Okafor shared, "Today, we present a list of 613 graduands, 388 at the Undergraduate level and 225 at the Postgraduate (Masters Degrees) level. The pleasure of producing another set of excellent intellectuals for the nation and the international community is limitless. We return all glory to the Almighty God who has made this possible."

The Acting Vice-Chancellor emphasized the need for women to actively participate in the quest for economic regeneration, engaging in family and national resources for fairness, equity, and justice. She stressed the imperative for universities to impact education that is relevant, ethical, and addresses challenges such as genocides and poverty.

Quoting OECD and World Bank research reports, she underscored the positive impact of exposing women to economic activities, advocating for their increased participation in the pursuit of economic regeneration.

She urged the graduating students to pursue self-development in their specialized disciplines and join relevant professional associations to enhance their digital skills, essential in the age of digital innovation and entrepreneurship.

Roosevelt Ken-Ebeku, another graduating student and the Student Union Government (SUG) President, encouraged the graduands to share and instill the values and lessons learned from the school in society at large.

Ken-Ebeku commended the institution's management for the numerous social activities offered, highlighting the 10th convocation as a milestone for Baze University.

When it comes to intelligence... Yoruba comes 1st.

Political dexterity 2nd after North.

But some lead when it comes to prostitution and drug trafficking.

Take a guess. grin

I don't want 40 year old men crying here, please. tongue
