A Nigerian proverb says, if you want to know how peaceful your marriage would be as a lady, is to check if your mother-in-law accepts you as her daughter. Every lady wants to be in the good book of her mother-in-law. In order to fit in, some act in a certain way toward their mother-in-law, differently from the way they behave toward their mother, which ought not to be so.
There is this unique, genuine bond that exists between mothers and sons; no matter how grown that child has become, she still sees and treats him as that little boy of yesteryears. You see him as your husband, a mature and responsible father of your children; she sees him differently. Every lady about to get married or those married should understand this natural bond that exists between their husband and his mother; otherwise, there will be an unhealthy competition for attention between them and their mother-in-law. If you observe that the relationship between your husband and his mother is weak, it’s an opportunity to prove that you are a good wife by bridging the gap.
