I fully understand your situation @OP. But then isn't it ridiculous that you're even thinking of reporting him to the EFCC? My God. You would have loved him to be an attendant at a viewing centre? Probably earning 8k/month or so? Surely, the boy must have bigger dreams than that.

To be honest, I know a number of people involved in situations like this. And I've since realized that most Nigerians (including most parents/family) often do not bother to investigate the source of wealth, as long as it helps improve the standard of living and puts better quality bread on the table. This is especially when they're reasonably sure it involves some 'acceptable' hustle like internet fraud/drugs/etc rather than hard-core robbery/kidnapping/rituals, etc. It may not sound particularly nice, but it is the bitter truth _ often necessitated by sheer reality.

It's difficult to advise you to do this or that. The only thing I can say is that you shouldn't dare snitch on your brother. The repercussions of such irrational (and perhaps envious) action might tear your family apart. Just allow him do his thing; you may nonetheless advise him to invest wisely - especially in building a house. As long as he ain't into violent stuff, then a nigga is gotta do what he's gotta do; this ain't about morality or propriety: it is about brutal necessity. Poverty is the ultimate crime in this country of ours.

But the poster's explanation suggests he is the only one from the family yet to know the source of the money. Since they 've not been in cantact for sometime now.

On the contrary, i have bn in contact it him even though i sense some level of disrespect,am still very diplomatic in my approach.

@OP
Don't ever report him to the Police or EFCC, that's the only advise I can give going by the very delicate nature of the issue. I expect you to be discretional and open-minded as ever, no jealousy or ill-feelings towards him pls. Otherwise, you might ruin his life and yours at the same time.

Best of luck

Wealth corruptly gotten will disappear without notice.

Slow and steady wins the race.

@Poster, advice and keep on praying for him. I know that you are only concerned and not jealous as some people are posting on this thread so do the right thing and leave the rest to God.

Your brother is undoubtedly a yahoo boy.

The Nairaland folks saying you are jealous or justifying what he is doing are also fraudulent as there is no explanation for a jobless 18 year old boy being able to afford a N5 million car.

It is unlikely that you can do anything about him so just keep praying for him.

Since you have mentioned it to your parents, stay back and watch. DO NOT collect a dime from him under any circumstance. Also stay away from him as much as possible so that it will be certain you do not approve of him.

Trust me, 90% of these yahoo boys cannot sustain their lifestyle because 'Maga will not always pay'. When his money finishes (and it surely will), his eyes will open. . . . . . . .i hope he learns before then.

You have done well as an elder brother and you do not need to report him to EFCC.

Am so dissapointed by people's comment condoning the actions of the boy and asking his sister not to say anything, after we are saying our leaders are corrupt when we ourselves will not do what is right, the truth of the matter is that the boy has committed a crime getting that kind of money, and let me state categorically "What goes around comes around", he and his family may enjoy the ill gotten wealth now, but in the nearby future he will suffer for it, "when a man jumps up, he will surely come down, but when he grows up he will stay up forever".

The boy has sowed into crime at an early age, he will surely reap the rewards of the crime sooner or later, the devil gives you something to enjoy temporary, sooner or later he will take it away from you with more consequences.

Can't you sense jealousy from the poster? He even went that far saying his younger brother has taken over his place as the breadwinner. And besides, does the fact that your 23yr old brother is younger than you automatically implies he can never make it before you?
I don't support making money from dubious activities, but the notion that it is a taboo when a young man makes money is wrong. The young man must have explained the source of his sudden wealth to his parents and decided to put the jealous brother out of the game.
Abeg dont misquote me o. Where in my post did I say a young man cannot make money or that a younger sibling cannot be richer than d elderly ones? My younger sister earns more than I do and hence is richer but she's doing a legitimate job. My concern is d SOURCE OF WEALTH! And if the poster is convinced his wealth is ill gotten(which is obvious even to a blind man from the OP's write up), he has every reason to be concerned and instead of giving him d advice he asked for, u resort to calling him jealous. And if u believe that idea of urs that his parents are aware of the brother's source of income and still keep it away from OP, then u'll believe anything. @OP, like someone said ur parents are ur best bet. He may not want to listen to u, but if u can talk to ur parents and let them know d dangers involved and convince them, they will in turn talk to him.

Well the fact that he initially started lieing indicates a dead rat somewhere. but handling him over to the authorities will help neither him nor your parents.
Try to find a different approach to it through your parents, i guess you still have a good contact with them. good luck.

After that what happens next? Throw the money away?

OP, stop chasing shadow. You already know that your bros is into yahoo yahoo which you tried previously to caution him severally. If you can't advise him on how to spend the money wisely, then free him.

He is 18 and should be able to face his music.

@OP

no two way bout it,. He's a high-level fraudster, While nobody condones fraud, the country Nigeria itself is fraudulent. It's everywhere, from pastors to politicians to even school-teachers, it's in the system.

Now you're showing an attitude of concern but my brother, it's fear! Yeah, u ar scared, he wont listen to you anylonger, you wont be able to control him, he would do anytin at will, he wouldnt respect u, f**king all the gals in Delta state, you are still cruising a leg-xus, while's he "marching" probably a 2008 RDX SUV. U get my point?

Well, he's 18 u said, even if he was 13, he sure knows what he is doing and should bear full responsibility for his action (if things go awry)
Reporting him to EFCC? I bet u, he's gonna come out on bail after spending a few millions and send your a*s straight in there for replacement or back to ground zero. What good have u done (even if he is convicted for 21yrs in jail)?

My take is that you all come together and invest that money.
In this game, THE SUN DOESN'T SHINE ALL THE TIME. HE MUST MAKE HAY WHILE THE SUN SHINES, N SAVE FOR THE RAINY DAY.
That's  exactly where you and ur family members should come in.

there are many options here, first you can buy a super glue, its just 50 naira. tape your mouth and eyes, so you wont partake in evil. your family is poor and someone is doing something about it, you are here ranting and complain.WILL YOU SHARRAPPPP.
look away and get a life for yourself.
if the boy is ready to do the crime i am sure he is ready to do the CRIME, i am sure he is ready to do the TIME.
your boss that you work for, do you know how he got the money he used in setting up the business.

Re: Help! Mine Jobless 18 Years Old Brother Just Bought A Car Worth 5million Naira by Nobody: 11:32am On Oct 28, 2011
If my 18-year-old brother bought a car worth 5 million NGN, I would be concerned. We're talking a young guy who's not employed. Where did he raise such a sum, to buy a car? How does he afford to run this said car - maintenance, fuelling, insurance and all other expenses owning a car brings?

As for those misguided beings saying the OP is jealous, think again. Nigerians complain of the state of the country, blaming everyone but themselves. Yet they celebrate con artists. This teenage guy is clearly getting money from any source but a legal one, and the OP is very much on point to show concern.

Re: Help! Mine Jobless 18 Years Old Brother Just Bought A Car Worth 5million Naira by lynxnoon(m): 11:51am On Oct 28, 2011
@poster
first of all u dont have any concrete evidence of anything illegal against him so its not advisable to report him to the authorities.
Invole ur immediate and i repeat ONLY IMMEDIATE family to talk to him
then u have a one on one talk with him
then let him be and ALWAYS AND CONSCIOUSLY PRAY FOR HIM
then let him be
Another thing .  .  .  .  dont accept any gift or monetary assistance from him (which can be difficult but possible wink)
Cheers

There is nothing much u can do, it's sad he didn't listen to ur warnings. . . when it's time for the real owners of his wealth to recollect it, he wud learn his lesson. .

N its not about being jealous, its the moral of the situation.

Nigeria would NEVER EVER change its not a curse but a fact. Nigerians cry when  politicians steal money and they are here supporting someone who turned rich suddenly, I wonder what this world is turning into,  the OP is concerned about his brother and not jealous. To the OP talk to your brother and your family again and if they insist then stay clear, I tell you that would help you.

God knows you have done your bit by talking to him and pay no attention to people here who thinks you are jealous
