I just got a new job and I was posted to Benin City. I would be glad if I can get advice on locations where I could stay (that has light, water and is secured), places I should be wary of visiting and things to expect generally as a newbie in the town.
I have never been to the city before and I'm a bit scared owing to the news of bad boys prevalence in the town.

U funny...did u mention water? As if we have water system in Nigeria...

Where to live depend on ur work place, but I am sure ur work place will be around any of this place...

Forestry
Airport road
Mission road

So be expecting bogus house rent here

You have nothing to worry off, I am in Benin City,I am from here, we are peaceful and welcoming, I reside in Airport road, depending on your job location will determine where u will get a house.
