Super Eagles: Nigerians clamour for Emmanuel Amuneke to replace Peseiro

The Super Eagles failed to secure a win against Lesotho and Zimbabwe in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches.

After a disappointing performance by the Super Eagles in the World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Zimbabwe, Nigerian fans have voted overwhelmingly in favour of Emmanuel Amuneke to replace Jose Peseiro.

However, former Nigerian international Austine Eguavoen's name was also mentioned by some sections of the fans.

The team's direction under Peseiro's leadership has been called into question, with many urging the NFF to relieve the Portugues of his job.


Nigeria hosted Lesotho at the Godswill Akpabio stadium in Uyo, where they needed a Semi Ajayi header to secure a 1-1 draw. A few days later, the three-time African champion also failed to beat Zimbabwe.



Many fans are not pleased with Peseiro's tactical approach and blame the team's recent struggles on his failure to get the best out of the talented pool of players that the Super Eagles of Nigeria have.

They argue that his methods are outdated and ineffective and that he has been unable to instill a winning mentality in the squad.


Peseiro's defenders, on the other hand, maintain that he needs more time to implement his philosophy and that the team is still under construction.

They argue that the two draws do not indicate Peseiro's long-term capabilities and that he deserves a chance to prove himself.



Emmanuel Amuneke is well-experienced, having managed fellow African country, Tanzania. Many of the comments were in favour of the former Golden Eaglets coach.

One of the names mentioned Augustine Eguavoen led the Super Eagles to the last African Cup of Nations in Cameroon, bowing out in the round of 16 with an agonizing defeat to Tunisia.

For now Emmanuel Amunike should be our best bet

After all he is better than Jose Peseiro

He was leaving office but quickly sign a new contract to bring this man in

Probably for personal reasons

So this new NFF are mere puppets in his hands.

Worse of all, they extended the contract to February aftern AFCON instead of allowing to go when the contract expired

Well, if the system has loopholes to allow persons to commit such atrocities without consequences, then we have a real monster of a problem in our hands.
