Xmas For Kids by PedoBear: 6:36pm On Nov 24, 2023
I'm doing this charity thing where you buy a present for a kid from a poor family. Any idea what kind of books a ten-year-old would enjoy?
I was thinking of getting a couple of books like Lolita, Ham & Rye, Child of God and LOTR etc.

You want to buy books for a 10 year old child from a poor family?

The parents wouldn't appreciate it. Give the child the money equivalence of the book, and watch the parents thank you from the bottom of their heart.

So Tunde chess in the slums should start giving every kid money instead of getting kids to play chess??

Books will go a long way than money will for the 10-year-old. Of course, none of the books suggested by OP are appropriate for a 10-year-old. undecided

Tunde gives the winners cash prices. So they're motivated to play because of the cash.

I would therefore suggest that you organize educative kids games for them and give the winners cash prizes.

Have you forgotten he used the word poor family.

He's not buying books for Ajebutter kids who would definitely value it. He's planning to buy it for kids who have no idea where their next meal would come from.

They would use those books to clean their nyash after defecating. It's better he gives them money.

But poor kids can and do value books same as rich kids. Books are not meant only for the rich. undecided

Have you been to slums in Lagos, the North or other parts of Nigeria?

The question here is how many kids of 10 years and below in those slums can communicate effectively in English language that you want to buy books for them?

Yes, I have and I met some very intelligent minds needing nurturing even there. undecided

Intelligence needing nurturing even at age 10 has nothing to do with family status. undecided

Did the op tell you he wants to nurture minds or that he's planning to buy a gift and present it to a kid from a poor family as charity?

Since he clearly stated it was for charity, I felt it might either be a one time or annual presentation. That's why I suggested he organises kids games and present the winners cash prizes.

If you want to nurture kids, it's not a one time contact. It takes years and years of investment along with lots of financial resources.

Reality is different from theory.

Even one time gift of books can help in nurturing a mind. Ofcourse OP'S intentions are clearly dubious given the selection of books he listed. lipsrsealed

2. A one-time gift I received as a child helped encourage me to doing some of what I do even today. My personal story is no theory. undecided

I asked you a simple question...why are you beating around the bush.

Were you from an extremely poor family, and did you guys live in a slum?

Yes or No.

I didn't grow up poor, however, the reason the one-time gift I received back them helped nuture a hobby of mine to this day had nothing to do with my parent's financial background. lipsrsealed

If you didn't grow up poor or have any experience of what children in slums go through, why are you ignorantly arguing that a child of 10 years who probably cannot understand basic English would value the kind of books the op suggested over money?

I see you are dead set on painting all kids in the slums as lacking even the basic skills necessary to read and probably write. I think I should best leave you to it. lipsrsealed

Simple question I asked you, you can't answer. So you would give the kind of books the op suggested to poor 10 year old kids in Tinubu's Nigeria over money?

You're just dumb. You have nothing in that your empty brain.
