I wrote this after reading an article in Wikipedia. In Zamfara state alone, there are over 30,000 bandits in about 100 camps.

The number is staggering and frightening. A lot of of the banditry in Zamfara state is financed from the artisanal gold mining that is booming in the state

Just like ISS in Syria, the motivation is the residual resources in these areas. They make money from it and do kidnapping and attacks to cause chaotic environment to prosper.

It's possible to get rid of these types just like the El Salvador president did. Since Nigerians don't want to expand gun rights to civilians to defend themselves from these bandits. The populace will have to opt for a more iron fisted government.

MS13 is more wild than these bandits and they were taken care of. You may have to give up on liberal ideals. That means alot death, more prisons, limiting access to lawyers and holding alot of young men in prisons. That's essentially what's going on in El Salvador.

You are right about the El Salvador gangs being worse than the bandits. However, they were easier to identify due to tattoos they splash all over their face and body.

I don't believe personal ownership of guns will do much against industrial criminals with arsenal which will make the police flee. Also, they work in packs.

Anyway, I am now partially convinced that the bandits can be eradicated. It has to be a carrot and stick approach. Banditry has ethnic origins. The Fulani feel marginalized by the Hausas and their livelihoods threatened due to battle over limited land for both cattle and crops to flourish together. That is why the Fulani took up arms to defend themselves of the numerically superior Hausas.

If the carrot won't work, they should resort to the stick.

I think the government should thoroughly crush the most powerful gangs in each state. Other gangs will realize they aren't invincible and will be ready to negotiate than suffer the same fate.

Ours is deep rooted. People have been brainwashed and told they can get amnesty like ND did. They are told it is we versus them so they have no remorse or feelings doing those horrible things.
Govt can but not just on the battlefield.

The moment the people decide enough is enough... It will end immediately... But in the mean time most are just glad they are not the victims until eventually they are.

Empower the local vigilantees with air and ground support from the armed forces.
But, i think Jagaban is threading with caution so as to still get the northern vote come 2027.
Maybe after 2027, he will unleash his venom.

I doubt it, the terrorists hibernate amongst the people, pray in mosques with them. Religion is for man not the other way round, a people who become dumb and stupid due to religion, will suffer. Use your head, terrorists will bring destruction to your homes.

It is now a booming industry in an underground economy with very powerful interests. The Nigerian government currently does not have the will, technology, resource and structure to tackle this type of criminal network.
